When can I bath after a bleed from fibroids?

Hi,

Long story short, I'm about 8 weeks and on Friday had a very traumatic scare. Had a bleed and passed a clot so called my local EPU and went in for a scan. Thank Gd everything is okay but it was caused they think from my fibroid. Midwife said not to bath/swimming/be intimate to avoid risk of infection. My question is, when can I bath??
The bleed was only on Friday and have had brown spotting when I wipe yesterday and today.

Thanks in advance for any help x

I would avoid baths at all and shower instead.

@Haggisfish3
Thanks, you mean throughout the whole pregnancy? Why's that? I thought baths were okay as long as pregnancy friendly soaps were used? X

I think it’s probably that the prolonged heat could encourage bleeding if you’ve already had a bleed from fibroids. I would be ultra paranoid so would just avoid baths!

Although I guess realistically, I would definitely wait until after the twelve week scan and ask then.

@Haggisfish3
Thank you, didn't really even think of that.
Will stick to showers and ask at my midwife.
Thank you! X

You’re welcome. I’ve learned to ask ‘why is that?’ whenever any advice like that is given!

PMAmostofthetime · 26/09/2022 20:27

@Sesamechick I had the same scare at 6+7 & 7+5
Huge fibroid. Caused the bleeding both times
They told me to avoid baths and hot showers so unfortunately for the rest of your pregnancy I think. I'm 12+5.
I have midwife Wednesday so I'll check and update you x

@PMAmostofthetime
Wow thank you for your message and for asking the midwife. I was in such a state on Friday, I didn't even think to ask for how long I can't have baths!
So pleased everything worked out for you. Is this your first? How big is your fibroid? Mine is 10cm and apparently at the top of my uterus. Xx

@Sesamechick yes my 1st through IVF- I thought it was all over both times it's around 18cm's also the top of my uterus.

They also told me no lifting anything over 5kg and no walking dogs that pull and to drink extra water- they said after 12 weeks the fibroid will shrink as the first 12 weeks we have more hormones before the placenta takes over.

Sesamechick · 26/09/2022 21:20

@PMAmostofthetime
That must have been so frightening.
I wish you a healthy pregnancy! Very exciting!

I was told the fibroid can either grow or shrink due to the hormones. Hoping it shrinks!

Hope you are feeling good and taking it easy! X

@Sesamechick appointment went well thanks. Baby is a little wriggler.

I asked about bathing and they don't advise it at all as the warmth can cause further bleeds, however if it's shrunk at next scan can have warm baths but not for too long as it increases body temperature and that's bad for the baby.
