Shoulder pains - early pregnancy

Hi everyone

I found out I was pregnant on Saturday and I’m currently 3+4 according to my last period. I have the occasional growing pains in my uterus area but the main thing I’m noticing is shoulder aches. It sometimes feels like they’re in my whole arm but mostly in my shoulder.
The aches are quite strong but I would describe them as more of an ache than a stabbing pain. If I ring the EPU what would they realistically do at this stage?
Thanks

Right shoulder tip pain can be a sign of appendicitis or ectopic, which doesn’t sound like what you are describing, but I’m saying that so that you can see that it wouldn’t be wrong to contact them. Any unusual pain is worth a call.

If you’re experiencing shoulder pain, I would get it checked out. It could be normal but it can also be a sign of a tubal pregnancy.

Def get it checked

If you’re only 3 weeks pregnant (ie not even missed a period yet) it’s very unlikely to be an ectopic as nothing will have even started really growing yet. If you mean your 3 weeks after missing a period (ie 7 weeks pregnant) then you should contact the early pregnancy unit. I doubt they will see you if you are only actually 3 weeks pregnant tho.

I’m 3 wks 4 days so I’ve not actually missed my period yet. This is what I thought, I don’t know what they would do because they probably won’t be able to see a sac on a scan anyway? Also I’m going on holiday this week (I will be 5 weeks exactly when I get back). I do have similar aches in my legs too but it’s strong in my shoulder/arm (just my left arm) and it’s driving me mad. I also had a MMC this year too so I’ve been massively in denial and trying to ignore it because I desperately don’t want there to be anything wrong. I had it yesterday and today.

Is it a particular arm that hurts or is it just the side it’s implanted on if it is an ectopic?

Have you changed your name op ?
its the right shoulder.

sausageandbeansx · 19/09/2022 21:22

Yeah oops haha. I’ll swap back to this one. Is there any reason it’s the right shoulder tip? I couldn’t find anything online about it

I can be either shoulder/both.

Cinnabomb · 20/09/2022 18:21

Usually right shoulder tip due to the nerve inner action. Sadly @sausageandbeansx if you’re that early there’s really nothing that can be done and it’s pretty much impossible to be an ectopic pain at 3 weeks. You’re right they can’t see anything on a scan until about 6 weeks.

Cinnabomb · 20/09/2022 18:21

That should have said innervation.

Did you have a positive outcome despite the arm pain? Currently 4wks and arms so achey. Was sent for bloods yesterday that came back as hcg 96 which they said is normal for 4 weeks ish
