Tinnitus improved after delivering baby?

Hi everyone :)

So I have tinnitus (ringing in ears) since before pregnancy, and over the past two years have gotten used to it so much that I don't think about it/ it's a non-issue in my life and seemed to have pretty much gone into the background! (It is possible to get past it and trust me in was tough at first but did happen! 💪)

But now am 34 weeks pregnant and while there was so change to it throughout 1st + 2nd trimester, since hitting the 3rd trimester (around 32 weeks) it's become a lot louder/ noticeable (apparently it may well be due to the increase in our progesterone which actually increases dramatically at the exact weeks that mine flared up) and it's is back to worrying me quite a bit/ not allowing me to relax as much as I would like in my last weeks before baby arrives..

Has/ did anyone else seen a tinnitus spike in the third trimester and has had it dissipate/ go back to 'normal/ previous levels' again after giving birth? Or know anyone who this has happened to?

Thank you :)

D

Not quite the same, but the only time I’ve been tinnitus free in the last decade was when I was on gas and air whilst giving birth!

For me I’m perfectly happy for it to just fade into the background as it was (no need for it to disappear!), just wanted to know if anyone else had it flare up due to pregnancy hormones and calm down after giving birth when hormones suddenly stabilize :)

Acupuncture has good results with tinnitus relief. I wonder if pregnancy changes in your body are pressing on the acupuncture points and relieving it.

Id try it if you have issues in future. It worked for me. £60 a session where I am.

Have you tried the palm drum beat remedy? It only takes a minute and worjs for most people.

You put your palms over your ears and then tap your fingers in rythem over the soft part of your skull for 30 seconds.

Could it be the extra blood flow of pregnancy? Also, how's your blood pressure? As this can cause a spike in tinnitus. I suspect it will calm down again after you give birth. I've suffered from T on and off throughout the last 20 years. Latest time was after having Covid in March 2020. It is entirely possible for tinnitus to disappear or at least wax and wane throughout a lifetime.

Hello! Yes doctor said blood volume can impact it a lot! So did yours calm down again some time after the covid bout?

Yes! It took a while (18 months). Don't give up hope that this will go back to baseline. Also, if your BP is high, that could affect it too. Tinnitus is horrible, so intrusive, I really hope it calms down for you once you've given birth. I'm sure it will!
