Anyone else waiting to be called for their induction?

I was booked in for an induction yesterday.

Our hospital call with a time to come in once a bed is available. Waited until 1pm, it then said on my appointment letter to ring up for an update if you hadn't been contacted. I called at 1pm and spoke to someone on the antenatal ward who said there were several patients ahead of me and that they could ring me all the way until 10pm to come in. I asked how likely it would be to be called until the end of the day and she said she was quite confident I'd be called.

We went to bed at 10pm with no call received and at this point I was pretty tired anyway, it's weird waiting in limbo all day.

This morning I rang up at 9.15am to check for an update and was told they were doing handovers, they said they'd call me back shortly.

I called them again at 11am as hadn't heard and spoke to someone who said I was still on the list and there were me and another lady waiting from yesterday plus today's appointments.

Anyone else also waiting and want some company?

I don't feel like starting any particular 'activity' in case they do call, it's like being on edge...

You have my sympathies as this was me last week. I was due to be induced on the 2nd and there was 15 ahead in the queue! Went in for monitoring on the 2nd and 3rd to make sure all was ok, went in for monitoring on the 4th and my BP was high and I had a headache so got bumped up to the top of the list and taken straight to delivery suite.

It's really annoying and there was 19 in the queue when I finally got my induction, it was a staffing issue apparently. However it was all forgotten very quickly. I'd say don't hang around waiting for the phone and just do whatever you like (within reason and close to hospital lol), I wasted 2 days sitting around. Good luck!

@20viona oh wow, 15 people ahead. That's a long list...

Seems like it's a really busy time at the moment. A friend of mine recently was waiting for her induction at the same hospital and it was also a quite drawn out process,

@LASandOtto yeah super busy! I was so frustrated and shed a few tears, mainly because i felt it was unsettling for my 3 year old (she had no idea realistically) but hormones will get you!

LASandOtto · 13/09/2022 13:36

@20viona Oh I am in the same boat, I've got a two year old and this whole limbo every day of dropping of her at nursery and then not being sure if I'll see her later or not is weird as waiting by the phone to see if we'll be called.

I’m in a similar boat to you.

Monday - came in for growth scan and dr recommended induction due to baby’s small size, but everything else is fine.

Tuesday - came in for induction and was given balloon catheter rather than drip due to my 1st being c section.

Wednesday - had balloon removed but it hasn’t led to any contractions. I’m now dilated 2cm. Midwives cannot pop waters since labour ward is understaffed.

Thursday (as of now) - currently 40 weeks waiting for my waters to be broken but labour ward is very busy and I’m at the bottom of a long list.

Honestly, I’d rather be at home waiting for my labour to come on naturally. They’ll call you in when they have a slot. You haven’t said why you’re being induced, but if drs were that concerned about yours or baby’s health, you would’ve been called in sooner.

Hi @Marmee53 , sorry it is painful waiting for a bed on the delivery ward! This happened to me when I went in for induction with my DD.

Can I ask, why is having a c section relevant to being put on the drip? I ask as I am pregnant again and will need to be induced early or have a c section and I have previously had a c section.

Good luck, I hope your waters get broken soon!

Dyra · 15/09/2022 22:28

Hoping things have progressed for you both by now @LASandOtto and @Marmee53

I was waiting for 3.5 days for my induction to continue. It sucked.

@Sallyh87 The drip thing is because of the risk of uterine rupture. Doctors are adverse to using the drip and hormone pessaries in VBACs as drip stimulated contractions are apparently (I wouldn't know. I've never had a non-drip generated contraction) much stronger than the real thing.

Sallyh87 · 16/09/2022 08:41

Thanks @Dyra , I shall keep my fingers crossed that I go into labour naturally then! Or have a c section, last one was fine.

Hope things are on the move @LASandOtto and @Marmee53 .

I'm still in hospital ladies... had 2 doses of the prostaglandin gel over 48 hours, do have contractions, but cervix isn't dilated past 1cm yet 😓 have had at least 6 internal examinations and sweeps now and hoping today progresses...

They say 2nd time goes faster and that's currently not the case for me whatsoever!

Good luck to you as well, hope there's isn't too much waiting around.

@LASandOtto hope things are going well!

I ended up having an emergency c section since my cervix didn’t dilate passed 4cm after being put on the drip and baby was getting distressed.

I really hope you have a better experience of being induced.

@Sallyh87 yeah as @Dyra said it’s to do with the uterine rupture. When they put me on the drip they did it very gradually and stopped when they realised my uterus wasn’t contracting.

LASandOtto · 19/09/2022 20:41

@Marmee53 same as you. From Wednesday to Saturday, had 3 lots of the gel, then had my waters broken, was then on the drip and never got past 6cm. Baby was also getting really unhappy so had to be rushed for an emergency section which was horrible. So scary.
Now already home and taking it easy! Sorry your experience was similar and sounds tough. Hope you're ok and baby is fine!

Congratulations @LASandOtto and @Marmee53 , sorry it wasn’t a good experience. Hope you are both being well taken care of and enjoying your new babies.

Dyra · 20/09/2022 00:40

Awww. What rotten luck for you both.😔I'm sorry the inductions didn't work @LASandOtto and @Marmee53 .

Congratulations on your new arrivals. Hope both you and your babies are doing well, you're getting lots of help and assistance at home, and recovery is swift.
