I realise I am probably being slightly irrational here and I am taking medication for anxiety which has been bad this pregnancy. I've been much better lately but having a bit of a wobble now.

Gave the cat a fuss last night, he never ever comes and sits by you for a stroke so made the most of it, forgot to wash my hands and definitely had a nose pick after Blush
freaked myself out suddenly thinking I've probably caught toxo now !! What're the chances ?? He's an outdoor car and is 3 years old.
Done some mad googling and seems pretty rare but still can't shut that voice off. I'm 35+2 btw.

Please no nasty replies I know I must sound crazy

You can only get toxo from handling faeces that's been sitting out for at least 24 hours. You can't get it from touching a cat.

@worryinglike I have an outdoor cat and I haven't even thought about washing my hands after stroking her. I stroke her and cuddle her loads during the day without washing my hands. Please don't worry - which I know is easier said then done. I don't think you sound crazy - pregnancy makes you anxious about all sorts of things.

Cuddle your boy! As long as you're not touching poo you'll be fine.

worryinglike · 07/09/2022 09:26

Thank you. Didn't even cross my mind to be honest ss he isn't usually a fussy cat so I haven't had to worry about it... typically I had to put my finger in my nose after lol
Got it in my head he would've had dirt on his coat or something

Are we meant to wash our hands after touching the cat? I only do if I've fed him, cleaned the tray or if I'm going to eat.

Yourteaisgettingcold · 07/09/2022 18:49

The NHS website states you can't get it from stroking a cat. I've attached a screenshot of the part on their Web page for you.

Unless you were digging around in its arse then licking your fingers, I think you'll be fine.

Bless you..this is just the start of the silly things which will worry you with having a baby and am glad people could reassure you! Mine are in their 20s and I still worry about so many things!

Justleaveitblankthen · 07/09/2022 19:47

I was living in abroad and 'fostered' most of the street cats when I was pregnant. You'll be fine Flowers
