Newborn & toddler with chicken pox

Hi all, in a bit of a panic, I am literally goth in tomorrow for a c section and just bathed my 3 year old and it looks like he has the start of chicken pox. Does anyone have any experience of newborns being around toddlers with CP? What rubbish timing, and just something else to be anxious about now x

We had the same thing - toddler came out in spots the day I went into labour.

A helpful doctor in hospital told me to keep the toddler away from the newborn 😠

Fortunately the community midwife was much more reassuring and said it would be fine. She said the baby would be born with my immunity and as I was breastfeeding that would also be good for immunity.

And it was all totally fine, apart from that it's not much fun having a newborn and a toddler with chickenpox. But I'm sure you've already guessed that 😆

You'll be great.

My prem baby got chickenpox when she had been home a couple of weeks from my toddler - I was breastfeeding and she had 2 or 3 spots. Breastfeeding protection worked

Aww, I EBF my DS, he picked up chicken pox, not sure of the source, he was EBF only had a few spots, very, very mild.

Good luck, I hope your toddler is ok, I had chicken pox as a child, my sibling didn’t catch it from me.

Thanks all, that’s reassuring, I did just read about the immunity from me for 3 months. I have tried expressing colostrum but haven’t got any so far.

what a helpful comment from that Dr, how an earth can you keep your toddler away from your baby. He is ok in himself at the moment, had a temperature Saturday and has been itchy, and now at bathtime I have spotted about 4 spots that are blistering xx
