Progesterone Pessaries Bleeding - Cyclogest

Has anyone had bleeding whilst taking progesterone?

I have been on it since 5 weeks due to two previous miscarriages and this morning I woke up to orangey red blood when I wiped.

The nurse did say that bleeding can be a symptom of taking the progesterone, however after my previous experiences I am obviously a wreck now 😬

Any experiences to share?

@Cazerbella Can I ask how did it go with your scan please?

To all can you still have spotting (brown) even if done rectally? Thank you.

I think you meant the other 'caz' on here....after my bleeding it was a confirmed MC unfortunately and I've since had another! Sad times.

Keeping the faith though!

What's the deal with natural killing cells, I'm readying about them a lot, how can you get them tested?

Im sorry to hear of your news @Cazerbella I have everything crossed for your future pg journey. Xx

Thank you, I do too!! 🤞🏼

@mrsmb03 i was told today you can still have spotting even if taken rectally (I am doing this). It could also be cervical erosion/ectropion spotting - some have this (I did in previous pg) - aggravated cervix from hormones.

just to add I've had the exact same issue.. on and off bleeding since from wk 6 to 12 weeks (where I am currently). I've had 2 miscarriages in the past too so this has been stressful but every scan so far has been reassuring. I do think it's the pessary and wish they'd warned me about this being a known side effect. Everytime I've asked they've just said, we have no idea what's causing it!

mrsmb03 · 16/03/2024 22:56

@vasiram are you doing it rectally or vaginally? I am 12weeks and past few days I still had brown spotting but my 12 week scan showed no bleeding. Hope they can let us know if it was the pessaries. I am doing them rectally so I also do not understand. My spotting is not everyday just from time to time. I will be on progesterone until 16 weeks (when I see a consultant) due to past miscarriages.

@mrsmb03

I have been taking it vaginally. initially because I had a random bleed at 6 weeks ( and history of 2 miscarriages previously) which prompted the prescription. however since starting it I've been bleeding almost non stop at times quite an alarming amount and nothing ever shows up on the scans. I've now reached 13 weeks and stopped it the last 5 days, and hey presto bleeding also stopped!

good luck to you all

Hi @mrsmb03 and @vasiram I had a bleed (Inc fresh red blood), brown, then spotting, then bit more fresh (bright red) then brown over a week from week 6. No bleed could be seen on internal scan. I am taking pessaries rectally - I’d personally recommend as it’s just less messy AND, because in my last successful PG I had a similar bleed at 16 weeks. They scanned, couldn’t see where it was coming from. I was so panicked (after 6 early MCs) sourced a specialist who was at The Portland - she looked at my cervix and diagnosed me with cervical ectropian. She gave me more pessaries that I took for another 6 weeks though I think this was more just covering all basis and I was fine after this. That bleed lasted about a week too.
might be worth investigating if you’re worried and want to put it down to something? I am thinking this is what caused my bleed this time around too.

Hi i no these are old posts , but just looking for answers, im just over 5 weeks started on the pessary , i started with brown discharge , then Sunday had some blood , they scanned and said the cervix was closed , it showered some blood in my womb. The embryo had attached lower , still in the cavity but lower ,was measuring ok , and hormones all ok. But she wasn’t sure I’d carry it as it is low .
last night I had more bleeding , so you think it’s the start of a miscarriage?
they are doing my bloods and scan again tomorrow .
xx

Hi Sunshine @5unshine did you have a safe and successful delivery? I too had previous miscarriages amd seeing the spotting is freaking me out. I am currently 5 weeks and worried

vasiram · 12/03/2025 09:07

Dear BB31

Sorry I missed your post last year. Just hoping all turned out well. It's a horrible feeling not knowing and waiting for the scan. All the best to you

vasiram · 12/03/2025 09:09

Hello

So for me the culprit was the pessary. It was extremely stressful with multiple scans to ensure viability, but we got through it eventually. I hope it's the same for you, be strong.
