32 Weeks Pregnant - Just found out

Hi all,

Had a bit of a crazy day and just looking for some general advice as feeling a bit overwhelmed. The last week or so I had noticed a change to my stomach at first I just thought I was bloated, however then I started feeling twitches and movements in my stomach. Something just didn't feel right. I didn't think I was pregnant but I knew it would be the first thing the doctor asked me if I went so I did a test on Thursday morning. It came back positive. I knew I had to be at least 7 months due to working out when I was last with someone.

Phoned the maternity unit at local hospital and explained the situation, advised me to come in straight away. Had some tests done I'm so clueless with anything to do with pregnancy that I'm not sure everything that was done. In turns out it looks like im about 32 weeks, baby seems healthy and they have sent off blood work just to make sure everything is ok. Examined by a doctor also. At one point she thought I was actually in labour however after doctor examination womb still closed so still ok. I get the impression they were concerned it might come early due to the stats from one of my monitoring scans.

I have told some friend and family and also my work everyone is understandably quite shocked. My situation is far from ideal. Im currently going through a divorce the baby is not my ex's. My mum and dad also live 3 hours away which would be my only support.

My heads a bit all over the place but I don't really have the time for it to be. So if anyone has any advice of what I need to look into ASAP it would be much appreciated. Just waiting to here from a midwife next week and the results of the bloods and tests that where taken today.

I'm assuming you want to keep the baby and not give it up for adoption etc. I would look at the necessities- somewhere for the baby to sleep and something for it to wear. Get size 1 nappies, Aldi's Mamia are great and not expensive. Look at a moses basket or a next to me crib (next to me will usually accommodate baby till 6 months but moses basket is more mobile for moving upstairs and downstairs for example). A cellular blanket, a changing mat and newborn baby grows. About 5 are recommended for the hospital and 2 cardigans - you'll be due beginning of October so it may be cold by then. Water wipes or cotton wool which can be dampened to clean babies bum as newborns poo a lot.

You also need to think about how you want to feed the baby? Breast or formula. If formula you will need bottles and a sterelised. For breast get some pads for your bra. You'll also need maternity pads for your hospital bag. Most other stuff is available for next day delivery via Amazon as you find you need it but they are the bare essentials I would say

I hope some of that is helpful, I know it's all about all over the place but I didn't want to read and run. I can imagine this is all a huge shock for you and a lot to take in. I wish you all the best.

Have you any other children OP?

Wow what a shock!! Hope you are ok.

I'd think about some antenatal classes, to give you an idea what you might be in for with regards to the birth.

I did these: www.letstalkbirthandbaby.co.uk/live-online-antenatal-classes/labour-birth-part-1
It's free and great for info.

Do you have other children or is this your first? If it's your first definitely sign up for antenatal classes.
Best of luck, I'm sure it's a shock.

What a shock! Is going to take you a few days to come to teens with it I imagine. Just take a deep breath and let yourself acclimatise to the idea.
