Hi All,

really needed anyone to talk to as I’m a nervous wreck :( I started getting brown discharge yesterday so I booked a scan paid for it straight away and went to have baby checked around 7pm everything was fine but I’m still getting brown discharge today every time I wipe has anyone else has to this? I’ve never experienced this before with past pregnancy’s and it’s really upsetting me I had a miscarriage last year and it was awful so it keeps bringing it all back to me I also had a massive bleed during this pregnancy last month but they told me I was pregnant with twins but unfortunately I lost one it’s been a real rollercoaster and I don’t know what to do my midwife never answers her phone or replies to my texts I rang the hospital they are no help said brown can be normal as it’s old blood but I keep thinking will it go red constantly going toilet to check :( my aniexty is through the roof and I’m suppose to be taking the kids out today for a day out :( I’ve got no pain or anything literally just brown discharge when I wipe if anyone has gone through this please talk about it it would really help me :) this would be my 5th pregnancy after my loss last year I have 3 children so this would be my 4th but honestly I’ve been a wreck the whole pregnancy and now this discharge has started I’m awful scan said everything was fine yesterday.

Really sorry you're going through this! Given the bleed last month I would highly suspect that this is old blood from that bleed finding it's way out. X

bombombo · 05/08/2022 09:01

I had brown blood/discharge at 16 weeks, I was terrified. I now have an 8 month old Smile

All the best OP Flowers

I had this at 9 weeks and lasted a couple of weeks. I was terrified, like you, that it would go red and it would all be over but she's now 11 months old babbling away right now. I'm hopeful it'll be the same for you.

Have you actually called the midwife, or have you just paid for a private scan? I can't see mention of it in your post? The midwife might want to do bloods or something, depending on your history. If you are rhesus negative they might want to give you anti-D at this gestation. Definitely call them.

Sorry, I see you rang the hospital! If they're happy, then I guess you just have to wait it out. I had bleeding in second trimester with my second. Never diagnosed a cause but it was fine. Perhaps it was a cervical ectropion or similar.

Hi All,

so they have said I have a subcronic haematoma I’m now 18 weeks and waiting for my 20 week scan to see if it’s gone away has anyone else suffered with this and it’s gone? I’m so worried honestly every day my aniexty has been horrible just thinking the worse will happen I think when you have suffered a loss and then pregnant again you will always be worried

@ShannonB2 I had one as well and I'm now 21 weeks, it hasn't been mentioned again actually so maybe it's gone? I don't know but it all seems ok

RainbowsMoonbeams · 26/08/2022 19:15

I was reading your first post, and I immediately thought it was a subchorionic heamatoma. I had the same thing with my son. I bled continually from 13-19 weeks.

They tend to resolve by 20 weeks, and mine did with no lasting issues. It’s a horrible feeling, worrying with the bleeding, but usually they are harmless.

One thing I would say though, is to avoid any heavy lifting. This would often set of bleeding episode for me. Try to rest up where you can if you feel achy.

Rachaelrachael · 26/08/2022 19:23

I had a haematoma and bled from 6 weeks until around 15 weeks. By the time I had my 20 weeks scan it had gone and caused no further problems with the pregnancy. Apparently they're really common!

Whataretheodds · 27/08/2022 22:56

@Rachaelrachael and @RainbowsMoonbeams was your bleeding/discharge all brown or did you get fresh blood too? Im 10 weeks brown discharge all week turned red and greater volume in last 24 /36 hours. EPU said it's within expectationa given my aubshorionic haematoma.

Rachaelrachael · 27/08/2022 23:08

@Whataretheodds mine was fresh red blood. I'd get a big gush then it would stop and start.
Pretty much like a light period but with no pain. I could see on my 12 week scan a big dark area where the pool of blood was

Whataretheodds · 28/08/2022 07:40

Thanks, that's reassuring

Allie92 · 11/02/2023 14:58

Hello @ShannonB2 and @Rachaelrachael
Sorry to bother you with this as your last post was in August 2022. But I found out on Wednesday that I also have a subchorionic hematoma at 5 weeks 4x4x1cm (large) and my anxiety is through the roof. It started with cramping and bleeding (only filled 1 pad) and thankfully I haven't bled since. I am noticing that I am getting brown stringy discharge when I wipe and I don't know what to think of it. I have a follow up appointment next week so they can monitor my hcg and repeat an ultrasound as it was too early to see the fetus when I was admitted. I know it may seem silly but everytime I wipe or see it in my pee I feel like I'm suffocating, like the fetus is slowly dying and I know I'm jumping to conclusions. I'm barely getting any rest because I already suffer from generalized anxiety disorder and have been off treatment since I found out about my pregnancy. I've attached 2 pictures below of what the discharge looks like. They kind of have the shape of "brown swimming sperms". I apologize in advance about the images.

Have either of you experienced this with your hematoma? And do you remember if yours was also considered large?

Thank you kindly

@Allie92 Sorry you're going throught this. I didn't get anything like on the picture, but I bled pretty constantly for a few weeks after it first started. Everything was fine and she's now 22 months old!
I would try not to worry, it's probably just old blood making it's way out. Can you get a scan in a week at EPU? They saw me when I was 6 weeks (plus a few days I think) and could see a heartbeat
