Weight gain:baby weight

I’m 31+2 and have only gained 2lb in my whole pregnancy. I was classed as overweight and was told to try not to put too much weight on.

I’m concerned about whether this means my baby will be small? Do I need to prepare for a small baby e.g. get some ‘tiny baby’ clothes as well as newborn just in case or will I be okay with just newborn? My mum was the same when she had me and I was only 4lb when I was born.

Has your bump been measured by the midwife? If they thought baby was small you would have been given a growth scan.

As for clothes it's not a bad idea to bring a couple of different sizes.

I get my first growth scan next week but that’s just routine for me as due to my weight, they won’t measure my bump at all.

My MIL has bought some tiny baby clothes but I just don’t want to keep them if they’re going to be a waste of her money.

You’ll know from the growth scan whether the baby is measuring bigger or smaller. It’s not a perfect science but more accurate than the midwife measuring your bump.
