Early pregnancy scan worries

I went today to have a scan at a private clinic, based on pregnancy app and when my last period was I should be 7 weeks and 5 days pregnant today. The scanner told me I am showing 5 weeks and 5 days, however they could not see a embryo on the scan. Said it could be 50/50 that I’m earlier than calculated (I know I ovulated late so technically this could be accurate as I had my first positive pregnancy test 4th July) or it could be a non viable pregnancy. Pregnancy tests are still positive and still have symptoms of pregnancy. Now have an agonising 2 week wait to have another scan. I also haven’t had a date booked to see a midwife so just feel like I’m stuck and so worried that this will result in miscarriage. Any advise would be greatly appreciated

@NewCCJ
Getting a positive test around then should make you around 7 weeks, it can go either way but I'm praying it's good out come on ur next scan, the 2 weeks will feel like 2 months, I have been there 4 times and it's the worst feeling in the world.

Hi @NewCCJ

I'm in a very similar position. I went for an esrly private scan at 8 weeks LMP and all the sonogrpaher saw was a gestational sac which he said measured 5w6 days. I think based on ovulation I should be around 7 weeks so I was already really worried about a blighted ovum. Yesterday I started spotting with some light brown discharge and mild cramps - all the signs are pretty concerning but there is so much mixed information out there about it all being fine, or all not being fine. The waiting is terrible! I have my booking appointment next Friday so just going to wait until then I guess and see what happens. Praying for us both to be fine!xx

Also - my scan was transabdominal - I don't know why he didn't do transvaginal but I'm hoping that's the reason he didn't see much. Does anyone have experience with seeing an empty sac on abdominal and then a yolk / fetal pole on vaginal around the 6 / 7 week mark?

Personally I would prepare for the worst reading your dates as that's such a huge difference.

There's no need to see a midwife. Most screening tests if you choose to have them aren't needed until 12-14 weeks so it would be a huge waste of time for midwives to see people so early when so many (me included) would just go onto have miscarriages or missed miscarriages. I'm afraid you just need to wait and hope. I've been there. It is awful. Look after yourself.
