Conceiving after stopping Cerazette

I have just came off cerazette, after being on this pill for 3.5 years, as me and my other half are now trying for our second baby.

I had anticipated having a withdrawal bleed relatively quickly as there has been times when I took my pill a little later than normal, and within a day or two I had a small bleed, and then it stopped the following day.

Can anyone shed some light as to what I should expect?

Should I have had a bleed?
I have now been off the pill for 2 weeks today.

Thank you

Cerazette’s a funny old drug. Everyone I know who’s been on it has reacted very differently to it. For me I still bled very heavily when I was taking it. I take it yours stopped completely? After I stopped taking it my periods took about two months to settle back to a normal cycle, and then it took two years for us to conceive after that.

DanielleViolet · 25/06/2022 16:51

@LittleRobins

I completely stopped bleeding, other than if I took it a little late, I found I would have a small withdrawal type bleed and by the next day I would be back to normal.

I have now been off 2 weeks, no withdrawal bleed yet.

Just feeling dull and achey in my lower abdomen.

@DanielleViolet I came off Cerazette last year. I had a small withdrawal bleed a few days after. I had crampy pains. I never had a period as I fell pregnant straight away.

I’d read so many people saying it made them feel nauseous, have sore boobs, cramps, get spots. I did get all of those symptoms, but I don’t know if it was pregnancy or because I stopped the pill.

Good luck x

DanielleViolet · 25/06/2022 19:47

@Rachelw730

So far I haven't had a withdrawal bleed or a period.. which I'm hoping could be a good thing?

Sounds silly but I just want it to happen!

I'm so excited and have waited ages for this moment, I've wanted a second baby since just after my son turned 2, but we decided it would be nice if our son is approaching starting primary school. Which he will be September 2023.

It took 2 months to fall pregnant with my son after coming of the pill previously, just after a very early miscarriage.

I have felt nauseous, cramping, dull aches and felt a little bloated since coming off the pill this time round.

But other than that nothing..

Pregnancy tests are currently showing negative, however I only came off the pill 2 weeks ago, so I expect it could be too early to tell if I am.

Keeping everything crossed at the moment 🙏

@DanielleViolet I came off my pill 22.11.21 I did a test between Christmas and New Year as was negative. I did one on the 14.01.22 and it was positive.

I’ve been on the pill since I was 15. I’m now 36.

Probably too early to be testing, but I have my fingers crossed for you 😊

DanielleViolet · 25/06/2022 20:14

@Rachelw730

I think I will give it another 2 weeks, and see where I am at, that will then have be 4 weeks since coming off the pill.

Of course if I have a period/ bleed prior to the 4 weeks, I'll probably leave taking a test for another 2-4 weeks in hope I've been lucky!

Thank you for sharing your experience.

When I stopped cerazette it took 3 1/2 weeks before i had a withdrawal bleed and had quite a heavy period that lasted around 10 days. We then conceived next cycle but miscarried around 8 weeks. Conceived again next cycle and it stuck. Ive got a little 2yr old now. I didnt go back on it once he was born and conceived 2nd baby after 3 cycles. She just turned 4 months.

Best of luck OP! I hope you get your bfp soon 🤞

Matildahoney · 25/06/2022 20:23

I used to spot if I missed a couple of days, it took 3 months for any sort of bleed once I came off it!

DanielleViolet · 25/06/2022 20:43

@abbs1

It's reassuring that I've heard your story about not having a withdrawal bleed for 3.5 weeks!
Makes me feel like this could possibly be "normal".

Sorry to hear about your miscarriage, however congrats on both babies 🤍

@Matildahoney

Also very good to know, I use to have a small bleed if I took the pill late, and a day later would return to normal.
Which I guess that's why I expected a bleed relatively quickly as my body usually would if I even took it late.

I thought i would bleed straight away as id been on and off it a few times and normally bled straight away so when it took so long to start i was worried but it all sorted itself out so try not to stress.

Unfortunately im not allowed back on any birth control due to pregnancy complications etc but it was so nice not having periods while i was on it before i had my son.

DanielleViolet · 25/06/2022 21:13

@abbs1

Thank you for some reassurance!

I shall update in a couple of weeks, hopefully with a positive result.

However I'm open to hearing others success/ coming off the pill stories.

Day 25 today since coming off the pill!
So far I've had no period/ withdrawal bleed..

Definitely expected something by now..

I was on it for 10 years with no periods. Had some spotting if I missed a pill. Came off in Sep 2021 and it took 4 weeks for my withdrawal bleed and then my body settled right into 28-30 day cycles. Used condoms for a few months while my body was settling.

Fell pregnant the first month we didn’t use anything! I think I was one of the lucky ones. But I do remember waiting so anxiously for that withdrawal bleed!

DanielleViolet · 07/07/2022 07:27

@PinkFizz1

That's good to know that it took yourself 4 weeks for a withdrawal bleed!
I'm only 2 days off of 4 weeks!
So I'm hoping something happens soon!
We've been using no form of contraception at all.. and we've been at it regularly!

Hoping for positive news soon!

I was on it for 3.5 years, came off it in October. Never had bleeds whilst on it. I had a withdrawal bleed about 6 weeks after finishing it so in nov and apparently ovulated, didn’t ovulate at all in dec then fell pregnant in Jan

PeanutCat1 · 07/07/2022 11:28

It was about 4 weeks for me also. I came off it in December and had my withdrawal bleed in January. I then had a proper period in feb and conceived the same month so the process wasn't too long for me at all!

Laurakiaora · 07/07/2022 14:30

I was on Cerazette for several years. I came off it in August 2020 and had no bleeding whatsoever until January 2021. My cycles where then incredibly erratic, having perhaps four periods a year (although my cycles have always been very unpredictable) until January this year and they've been between 5-6 weeks since.

I did conceive just under a year after stopping cerazette (though that was ectopic) and again in May this year. I'm currently 9.5 weeks pregnant.

DanielleViolet · 08/07/2022 10:00

@Samthenanny, I was also on the pill for just over 3.5 years, and have been off for 4 weeks tomorrow. With any luck I'll have some sort of bleed, as I'm so confused with what's going on with my body 🤣.

@PeanutCat1, your experience also sounds positive, with any luck I'll have a bleed soon & eventually get a BFP.

@Laurakiaora, sounds like it's been a very long process for you! Congrats on your pregnancy too!
It's such a waiting game!.

I came off the pill a month ago and have had a withdrawal bleed but no actual period,
I’ve been having twinges and cramps. I’m pretty sure I ovulated as I’ve been doing opks x

GlitteryGreen · 08/07/2022 13:04

I came off Cerazette in May 2021 and like you was expecting a withdrawal bleed as I usually got a little bleed if I missed a pill. However I didn't get one and actually just got a light period at the right time of the month - about 3 weeks after stopping - but I know some people take a bit longer to return.

I'd say it took until September for my period to return as 'normal' - ie like I'd have recognised it prior to being on the pill in terms of heaviness and pain and we actually conceived in October, although it ended up being a very early MC. Conceived again in December and am now 30 weeks :)

It is frustrating to not know what's going on but it does take your body a while to get the hormones out of its system. Even though my periods returned, there's no way they were anywhere normal until September.

DanielleViolet · 09/07/2022 21:24

@Sunny87 & @GlitteryGreen

Today is 4 weeks since coming off the pill.. no sign of period or withdrawal.
However (probably a little too much information..but..) my nipples are so sore, almost too sore to touch, or even have a top rub over them, my breast have got larger, and I have a dull ache in my lower abdomen.
Me and my other half are ttc, it just seems all the above symptoms sound like I could be positive in the coming days or week etc..

Fingers crossed..

I really think it sounds positive, everything which is going on with me is screaming I'm pregnant, and although I've only came of the pill 4 weeks ago.. I just hope I get a positive result soon. X

@DanielleViolet I’ve had a similar experience to you, stopped taking Cerazette 13th June and got first period (or withdrawal bleed?) 13th July. Had the sore nipples too! Heard a mixture of stories when coming off this pill
