Brown spotting…. Is there hope???

Hi,

I am 5 weeks 3 days pregnant and yesterday I noticed brown spotting which continued all day and is still happening today. It’s small amounts in underwear and every time I wipe from the toilet (sorry it’s TMI). It’s making me so nervous to move as I don’t want it to get worse but also obsessing and keep checking.

I went for a private scan yesterday (too early really) and there was a sac and small yolk, but no visible baby.

I have an NHS scan on Monday (today Wednesday) when I am 6 weeks but I’m just feeling so down and worried. I’ve had 2 previous miscarriages and no children. Really felt so positive and happy until this started.

Has anyone else had this? How did it turn out?

Hi op, I had this a couple of weeks ago. I phoned my epu as I previously had a mc and they invited me in for a scan. Said everything looked fine but baby was smaller than my dates so I've to go back Monday. As long as everything's in the right place there's hope, spotting is common but scary

I had spotting throughout my pregnancy, plus one big bleed at 13 weeks, and DS is now a strapping 3 year old.

Unfortunately, individual experiences are just that, so individual that I'm not sure how helpful that is, but just to say that there is hope, and spotting can be caused by all sorts of things, especially early in pregnancy. I have everything crossed for you that your scan on Monday brings good news.

Deb11009 · 22/06/2022 16:28

@Frida9 can I ask how long your spotting went on for? Glad to hear your scan was ok and wishing you lots of luck for Monday. Monday is a big day for us both, I’m wishing the days away atm

@toastfiend aww that is a really positive ending and gives hope. It’s so hard, every little twinge feeling makes so nervous. I am really hoping too that Monday brings good news

I had similar at 5-6 weeks and then later in the first trimester. The baby was fine and now 14yo. I hope you get some reassurance soon. It's a highly stressful time.

plixy · 22/06/2022 16:33

I had three miscarriages before having my daughter. I bled more with my successful pregnancy than I did with the 3 miscarriages so there is always hope. Unfortunately this early it's just a case of wait and see.

Kerrrmieee · 22/06/2022 16:34

I had spotting - I say spotting but my knickers (gusset - hate that word) were covered in brown early weeks. My son is 25 and 6'4!

I had same with daughter and they could see a fetal pole at 6 weeks. 1mm. They pretty much prepared us for the worst. Next week 3mm pole.

Could you get into EPC earlier? I know it's hard, but for you it's the hardest wait in the world.

Wishing you all the best x

@belwiz thank you, this gives me hope. It is so stressful. I really hope it all works out

@plixy sorry to hear about your miscarriages but glad to hear you had your daughter, this gives me hope. It’s the wait and see that’s so hard, always wishing there was something I could do. Hoping Monday comes around quickly and is all ok

@Kerrrmieee thank you, so glad you had positive outcomes. It is the hardest wait. I spoke to EPU and all they could do was book a scan for Monday when I’ll be 6 weeks. I did pay for a private scan yesterday which showed a sac and yolk but no baby, which she did say is normal for this early (5 + 3 days)

I had this with one pregnancy, it is so worrying and it happened to me three times with 3 or 4 weeks gaps so everytime I started to feel a bit more reassured it happened again. I was lucky and all was fine, bouncing 10lb baby boy.

I hope all goes well with you and you're on here in a few months announcing a safe delivery.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 22/06/2022 17:06

It was 21 years ago but I think it went on for ages, well past 4 months. He's 21 now and huge . There is hope x

Hi OP.
I had this at 5 weeks also, although mine had a twinge of pink blood in there too. IVF pregnancy so it was devastating to see the blood. I called and was told it could be old blood and just had to wait but luckily for me I went on to have a very healthy pregnancy and my daughter is snoozing in her dads arms right now.

The bleeding lasted a day and a half I think. It also happened again at about 8 weeks after I had an abdominal scan so unsure if that maybe knocked something?

Sending lots of positive vibes to you!

pimlicoanna · 22/06/2022 17:18

To be honest this has happened twice. The first time it ended in miscarriage and the second time it resulted in the small child sitting next to me. Only time will tell and it will be nothing you've done and there is nothing you can do really. I hope it works out well

I had brown spotting and slight pink tinge on toilet paper early about 6 weeks in this pregnancy….seen at epu for scan and all fine, measuring on track and heart beat seen. Now 13 weeks and had 12 week scan yesterday….all fine. Can’t do anything but wait and see, hope all is ok for u x

B0ssAssB1tch · 22/06/2022 21:00

I had this. It was an implantation bleed. My twins are 7 now!

RGinaPhalange · 24/06/2022 03:48

I had brown spotting for a few weeks at the beginning of my pregnancy, I think it lasted about 2 weeks. I discussed it with my midwife and she told me it was most likely old blood from implantation and nothing to worry about.

I’m currently 36 weeks and just had a growth scan (baby measuring slightly big) and everything looked fine and baby is kicking away.

Try not to worry but maybe have a chat with your midwife just in case x

Hi @Deb11009

I'm 10+1 weeks and had brown spotting the day after I found out I was pregnant at 4+3 weeks which lasted 48 hours coupled with cramping which honestly sometimes felt like period cramps. Then nothing until 6 weeks when it started again for just 24 hours. Then I've not had it at all since then!

I had a reassurance scan at 7 weeks due to my risk of multiples and they were able to see where the embryo implanted and said that explains the spotting, it was just delayed coming out hence the browness. :)

x

I had brown spotting at 5w in my first pregnancy. No scan offered as too early. All was fine, that little dot is now an 11yo!

I had brown spotting at 9/10 weeks is a later pregnancy. That was a missed miscarriage.

What in trying to say is... no guarantees, but it is probably fine 💐

cottagegardenflower · 24/06/2022 19:12

I had brown spotting and it was all fine. baby right as rain.
