Hello,

My hips have been in agony recently when walking and even when sitting, I think it's the side sleeping that's making it worse with all that extra weight on them from Baby.

Any tips for how to relieve the pain? (Am 21 weeks so want to try stop it from getting worse if possible!)

I'm getting that too a bit 20 weeks, it's on the left side. Sitting for any length of time making it sore. I have to sit with good posture on the sofa. As it sitting back and having 2 feet evenly on the floor. I've found using an excersise ball, sitting on it and rolling my pelvis in circles helps. Also, pregnancy pillow....I had the same first pregnancy.

@Bramblecrumble21 mines mostly left side as well! I might have to get an exercise ball then (I know people use them before/in labour anyway so might be useful!)

Hope yours doesn't get too painful!

Pillow between knees when sleeping is a must. And if you can, pay to see an osteopath or a physio. It could be the start of pelvic girdle pain which can be managed with treatment and exercises. Waiting list times for NHS referral are so long it's better to go private if you can.

You don't just have to put up with the pain! I was immobilised with it at about 24 weeks but with treatment my mobility has improved so much. Pregnancy yoga is also really really helpful - just don't do any of the poses that involve asymmetrical movement. Agree with PP about sitting on a birth ball and looking at your posture when sitting and standing. Definitely try not to cross your legs as well because that misaligns the pelvis

@GrowBabyGrow thank you - we have physio with work which I have just self referred to so 🤞 they cover pregnancy!

And my pregnancy pillow arrives this week so hope that improves things!

Glad you are starting to feel the benefit of the exercises and treatment:)

I had awful hip pain throughout my pregnancies. I have rheumatoid arthritis and joint damage which was made worse by pregnancy hormones and carrying about extra weight
The pregnancy physio I saw gave me a support belt which helped a bit, a slide sheet for helping me in bed and also signed me up for weekly hydrotherapy which was my favourite hour every week.
If there don't do that near you on the NHS look at seeing if you can do it privately because it was the best thing or aquanatal classes

@Annny27 I'm 20+5 and can totally recommend a pregnancy pillow between the knees at night. I had really bad hip pain that was getting worse week by week and the pillow has eased the lot. I was starting to worry as I hadn't even got half way and hobbling when I got up!

This is my first baby and my mum had the same, but nothing with my sibling, so must just be those first baby stretching joys!
