Sun cream for pregnancy?!

Hello all, I was wondering if anyone can recommend a pregnancy safe sun cream to use. I've read that mineral sun scream is recommend in pregnancy (vs "chemical"), but I'm having a hard time finding mineral sun cream for the body that works well, according to reviews. Thank you!

It's not NHS guidance (mineral vs chemical) but is more of a thing in the US.

Green People organic children is a good mineral sunscreen, use it on the whole family.

Don't stress about it too much. I just bought an own brand kids suncream that's for sensitive skin. You're not using it for months on end.

If by mineral sunscreen you mean those white ones that sit on top on the skin, there's no way I could have used that!

I think the ultimate verdict of all the studies is that sunscreen, including chemical sunscreen, is better than no sunscreen.

Some people only use 'reef safe' suncreams anyway due to these certain chemicals in normal ones. Can't remember what they're though!
The mineral ones sit on top of your skin and kind of reflect the light back rather than causing a chemical reaction to prevent burning. Something like that !
I went away recently and did buy mineral suncreams which are quite pricey aswell! One I used was like bloody sudocreme so didn't bother with that one. Green people was much better. But I used kids Nivea factor 50+ on the places I burn the most and my bump.
I'm sure normal suncreams is fine anyway, it's not like your piling it on everyday

Just use any sun cream! I was quite OTT when pregnant (think giving up booze 3 months before even ttc, never painting my nails while pregnant) and even I never gave which sun cream to use any thought.

Thanks everyone! Perhaps I'm overthinking it :) And I agree that the mineral ones are pricy! Sometimes £30 for a tiny bottle. H&B had a reasonably priced one, but the reviews were not good.

@Corgisandcoffee if it helps, I used this one in pregnancy last summer www.boots.com/hawaiian-tropic-mineral-sun-milk-spf30-100ml-10290562 just a heads up it smells a bit and you will look whiter after applying as it sits on the skin rather than being absorbed and feels a bit oily. It works though. I did wonder if I was being over the top worrying but I just went with it anyway 😅

Just read that article someone attached about the mineral sunscreens. It looks like the one I used (Hawaiian Tropic) passed UVA testing but offered less SPF protection than claimed: so had SPF20 protection rather than SPF30. I definitely didn't get burnt when using it. I'd probably still get it now given it's still protection and not a chemical one 😅

I use earth mama. Mineral sunscreen as Im quite anxious during pregnancy like you 😬 of course I'm over thinking but sometimes if it helps ease the anxiety why not ❤️

I'm in Australia and we've just had several sunscreens recalled (pregnant or not) as they contain benzene which causes cancer.

One of the brands is from Cancer Council ! 🤦‍♀️ some are Nivea.

So yes a lot of them are full of nasty stuff so I'd go for natural/organic ingredients.

Given that you're more sensitive to sunburn in pregnancy I'd stick with the tried and tested good old Nivea or soltan. The way the others sit on your skin is not comfortable at the best of times either, let alone when you're carrying the weight and heat of an extra human inside you. Both my pregnancies were abroad in a very hot country through the summer and I didn't think twice about slathering on the standard factor 50. 2 incredibly healthy DC's so no harm done.

No wonder allergies are so common in children - eat and drink virtually anything, the more the baby is exposed to, the less chance of allergies.
