8 weeks and feel bedridden by pregnancy

I’m 8 weeks pregnant and I feel so rough 24/7 that I just have no choice but to spend the days in bed.

I am bone crushingly tired every single afternoon it’s unreal, to the point where I have no choice but to fall asleep or at the very least, close the curtains and lay down.

On top of this I have all day sickness. Not only do I feel sick pretty much all day (with it intensifying at certain times) but I am throwing up 3/4 times a day and I feel like it’s crippling me. The thought of any food absolutely repulses me at times and all the things I once loved I now cannot stand.

This is my second pregnancy and I don’t remember feeling quite this bad with my first. My partner swears there’s multiples in there 😂

The tiredness is quite something, I remember wondering if anyone would notice if I had a snooze under my desk at work but never had the nerve to find out!

Although you're nauseated a lot of the time, vomiting 3/4 times a day really isn't bad at all so if you feel you have to take to your bed now, I really hope it doesn't get worse!! 😄

I was actively sick morning, noon and night and during the night for 38 weeks with all of mine, that included carrying plastic bags in the car so I could pull over, he sick, then carry on on my way to meetings or outings with the older children. Life, motherhood and work doesn't stop I'm afraid.

Chat it over with your GP in case there's something else going on, but it really sounds like the normal and probably not severe end of the joys of pregnancy I'm afraid!

It's a girl 😁

All my pregnancies were like this, I promise it'll get better. I'm currently 32 weeks and have just had a nap, the tiredness comes back but I promise you'll be eating again in a few weeks. Ask your midwife for anti sickness medicine and try to find something you can stomach as often an empty stomach will make nausea worse.

Good luck x

@User3568975431146 I have my first midwife appointment next week so I’m hoping for my iron levels to come back as normal but I am taking an iron supplement just in case.

I have emetophobia so really try not to be sick as much as possible, I hold back loads and could be sick far more than I actually am. Every time I am sick it leads to a panic attack on the bathroom floor because I’m just terrified over being sick. I’m a huge wimp I know but it’s just the way it is for me unfortunately.

I cannot wait for this phase to pass, it’s certainly going quicker this time around but gosh, I can’t wait for some energy and to enjoy food again!!

@RaspberryChouxBuns Oh well that would be lovely as my first is a boy so we’re secretly hoping for a girl.

Thank you for the words of encouragement, it’s definitely what I needed to hear! I hope the rest of your pregnancy goes well for you! x

I was like that with my first. Currently 7 weeks with my second and so far have had occasional nausea but the tiredness is still there.
The afternoons are so difficult to get through and don't really get a chance to nap as have a 10 month old. Was so lucky with my first that I'd just nap whenever I needed to

Do you wfh? I book naps into the spaces in my diary (12 weeks here)

Flibbyjibby · 14/06/2022 18:10

contact your GP straight away and ask for anti sickness medication. I was like this and it ended up getting worse - by 10 weeks I was in hospital with severe dehydration due to hyperemesis.

It does pass, but it is awful. The anti sickness medication was an absolute life saver.

Did this ever get better? I am 8 weeks and the most tired I've ever been in my life. I'm spending all day in bed, only getting up to pee/eat. I am also suffering from nausea all day.
I was prescribed cyclzine and signed off for 2 weeks by my doctor. Only got a week left now and already thinking how will I cope with going back to work - I'm a teacher so it's not easy.

I just want to know, did the tiredness improve at any point? Or was it related to your bloods. If I could take something to make me less exhausted I would love to.

Sending big hugs as I was the same, it’s horrible and feels never ending. I’m 16 weeks now and am feeling much better.
Try to get some fresh air as it will help (I know it’s the last thing you want!). Perhaps try sucking on freeze pops and seeing if you can stomach some white bread and butter, that was the only thing that I could keep down but on the bad days nothing stayed down! Definitely contact your doctor, it will pass!

@Mumtobe1233 I’m sorry for the late reply, I don’t get chance to come on here often anymore. It absolutely did get better! I stopped needing to nap all day every day and I’d say my sickness was miles better by 16 weeks but the tiredness improved before that!

It did come back in the third trimester though and I was back to nappy quite regularly whenever I had the chance. but it was a different type of tired, it was more tired from achiness due to being so damn heavy.

I will say though that my sickness was so bad during my pregnancy that I still struggle eating, drinking or smelling everything that made me sick day in day out during the first few months! Good luck for the rest of your pregnancy and congratulations! You’ll feel better at some point, things do tend to get better throughout the second trimester. I’ve I get how miserable it is completely but I promise it’s temporary and totally worth it xx

Oh I forgot to mention my bloods were always fine too! It was just my son sucking the absolute life out of me 😂
