I am currently 3 days shy of 12 weeks pregnant and 43 and thus higher risk. We had a reassurance scan at 7 weeks where there was a heartbeat but I’ve had no discernible symptoms at all aside from more frequent weeing and possible bloating. My midwife appointment was only last week and now my even has come through for 2 weeks time which means I’ll be almost 14 weeks. The hospital say there’s nothing they can do as they’re fully booked. The midwife put it as urgent but doesn’t seem like that’s been considered. Has anyone else had this? Is it bad? We do want the NIPT test but now looking at a private one and to see if there is still a baby there. Thank you for any help you can offer

If it's just for reassurance could you go private?

12-week scan can be anywhere between something like 11 weeks and 13+6. I was 13+6 for mine. As long as you are before the cut-off for the NT testing, which is 13+6, then there shouldn't be any issues (other than the anxiety of waiting a bit longer!).

The 12 week scan can be done up to 14 weeks.
If you are having the screening for Downs, Edwards and Pataus the blood test can be done up to 14 weeks and 1day.

If your getting a private NIPT then don't worry about the timing of your dating scan as you would already know your dates (from NIPT) and that test is better than the NHS one you have at dating scan/the quad blood test.

I was in the same situation as you and had my dating at 14weeks, the NT measuring couldn't be done because DD wouldnt keep still and as I was 14 weeks there was no time to come back so I ended up having the quad test.

Basically push for earlier scan if no NIPT otherwise it's just another chance to see baby.

Go private. I wish I had.
They did this to me and I got in at 14 weeks. They couldn't accurately screen, the NT couldn't be measured, and down the road, at the 20-week anomaly scan (which was also late and done at 23 weeks), there were 3 soft markers for a trisomy which an amnio confirmed. I was 39. It was devastating and so poorly managed. Given your age (no offence... I had DC3 at 42 so, solidarity fistbump and a hug), I'd go private. I am sure your baby will be fine! Trisomies are rare. But you know, for the sake of reassurance, it's really worth just paying for the service you need.

Did you opt for the screening for Down’s syndrome etc? They have to do this before 14 weeks, so I am surprised they are not trying harder to fit you in if so.

Could you try asking if they could get you in sooner at another local hospital?
