Painkillers in pregnancy

Hi, I am currently 6 weeks pregnant. I have hypermobile joints which can be quite painful at times, usually if it's bad I take ibuprofen and I'm fine but have read that it is dangerous in pregnancy.
Does anyone know what other medications I can safely take to relieve joint pain? My first midwife appointment isn't until the end of this month and when I spoke to my GP about my joints before I was pregnant all they said is "if ibuprofen works keep taking it" basically making me feel that they won't really treat it.

This probably isn’t much immediate help but I had migraines during pregnancy (joy!) and was told by my Dr ibuprofen is fairly low risk in the 2nd trimester. Only 6 weeks to go?!

the risk goes up again in the 3rd trimester though, something to do with ibuprofen’s potential impact on heart development (but my Dr didn’t tell me this and I was still taking them for a lot of my 3rd trimester and DD was fine - so make of that what you will!)

I would definitely contact the GP again for advice (or a pharmacist?) - if it's causing you pain then don't wait! There will be an answer!

This. If you can't wait (because of bank holiday + weekend) call 111

Paracetamol is fine during pregnancy if that helps. But yes, i'd have a chat with your local pharmacist or doc again to get a list of possible other meds if paracetamol doesn't help with your joint pain.

Ibuprofen is contraindicated in pregnancy. It can increase your risk of miscarriage.

Tothepoint99 · 02/06/2022 21:54

Advised not to take ibuprofen here too. Paracetamol okay.

Iv been given codeine in pregnancy but you don’t want to be on that long term as baby will get addicted to it and be poorly after birth. Paracetamol is fine in pregnancy for longer term use my doctor said.

Im having really bad baxk pain at 29 weeks pregnant. I have taken a few codiene throughout pregnancy but as soon as i got to the third trimster i stopped. Hoeever , my back is in so much pain im lying in bed sobbing, paracetamol isnt touching me, can anyone advise anything? (something that wont cause my baby any harm/effects) im already feeling very guilty for taking codiene a few times before i got to this far

I got given codeine for the cramps I keep getting.

I've literally been doubled over in agony, crying out in pain.
It's worthwhile speaking to the early pregnancy unit, they'll be better to advise.
