Temptation to find out gender! Help

Mamdiaries · 01/06/2022 13:45

We have decided not to find out the gender of DC2, unlike we did with DS.

However, I'm finding it a lot more difficult than I thought I would, especially given I had to convince DH to have a surprise! 🤦🏼‍♀️

We had our dating scan a couple of days ago and I'm pretty sure going by nub theory it's a girl, but I know this is just a bit of fun.

Can anyone offer some words of wisdom to wind me back in and gain the self control back I desperately need to not find out? 😂

I'm so sorry but I can't, I know I'm no help, I couldn't help but find out with my 2 DSs, I tried, but failed 🙈 but then I saw it as I can get everything ready and prepared colour wise, bedroom etc, rather than just neutral colours 😊

It's so difficult to resist isn't it! We already have a neutral nursery (moving DS into the bigger room) so wouldn't be too worried on that side of things etc but it's just knowing if you have another son or a daughter. I must resist 🙏🏼

Do you actually want to resist though?
I like knowing because it helps me bond more, the more info I know.

PinkBump2022 · 02/06/2022 23:46

Have you got w picture of the nub? I seen my nub in the 12 week scan and it was so girly I got mega excited as we wanted a girl this time around and I was so desperate to find out but I had to wait for a gender scan at 15 weeks and those weeks of waiting had me going insane so I can’t even imagine how your feeling lol just pretend it’s like your in the Olden days and there is no way to find out

LondonMaybe · 02/06/2022 23:53

I don’t get the it’s a surprise thing, it’s the same surprise whenever you find out during pregnancy or at birth and to me it spreads out the magic finding out in pregnancy. There is enough to find out at birth, like what they look like etc. To me it helps with bonding as well.

Bobinov · 02/06/2022 23:59

I think knowing we are having a girl has been really wonderful and feels like we know her a little bit more already. I can’t imagine why anyone would want the surprise although I’m generally terrible a secrets and surprises! I don’t get how anyone could control that when the information is there. I’d find out, especially if your partner wants to know!!

20viona · 03/06/2022 02:25

@LondonMaybe well said.

autienotnaughty · 03/06/2022 02:45

I definitely preferred not knowing and having the excitement of "it's a ....,,,,,,," !!!

cdba88 · 03/06/2022 03:39

The joy at delivery is indescribable, even for the midwives!

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 03/06/2022 06:02

I got to 36 weeks and caved at a growth scan!!

me and you partner decided not to find out what we were having, but as we got to around 18 weeks we both started to question why we weren’t finding out and said it would be a nice surprise whenever we did find out. So we decided to find out and I’ve definitely been able to bond with the baby more since finding out she’s a little girl 🥰

DangerouslyBored · 03/06/2022 13:02

DH and I felt so much more bonded since we learnt we are having a boy. We talk about the plans we are making with him every day, I would hate not to know, but then DH and I are v organised and want to have everything in place before he’s here. But I do get everyone is different. I think for me, the fact that I’m going to actually give birth to a baby will be plenty of excitement on the day, I don’t think I could cope with much more Grin

trevthecat · 03/06/2022 13:10

We found out with the first 2 and not with the 3rd. I loved not knowing. And that my dh got to announce it to me when smallest was born

Mamdiaries · 03/06/2022 13:10

So I caved and sent pictures of my scan to 4 different nub theory companies... all 4 of them said girl 💗 I hoped that would be enough of a clue for me to continue not knowing but it got me so excited and on edge that me and DH had a proper talk about it all last night and decided we are going to find out! Scan booked for Father's Day. I'm super excited and I'll probably continue to drive myself insane for the next 2 weeks 😂

I think what @Pregnantpolly said resonates with me "do you actually want to resist though" and the simple answer is ultimately no! I think so many people tell you how amazing it is to not find out and have the surprise at birth, it's more magical they say etc etc BUT that doesn't mean it's the right way to do it for everyone.

Yep, girl.

Will update when we've had our scan. A little girl would be amazing as we already have a little boy ❤️

@Mamdiaries I still love that you have a scan booked for Father's Day. It makes it seem like a special day to find out.

Mamdiaries · 21/06/2022 17:34

Update - it's a girl! 💗

Peonies94 · 21/06/2022 20:05

@Mamdiaries congratulations on your little girl! how many weeks were you when you submitted photos ? Also which nub theory companies did you use?

OperaStation · 21/06/2022 20:10

Sex, not gender. Sounds pendantic but there’s a very important difference.

Sarah13xx · 21/06/2022 20:19

I’d say once you get to 20 weeks it’s all downhill from there in terms of how fast it goes and you don’t really get detailed scans after that so if you can focus on holding out til then you should be fine

but no, I would 100% be finding out before I even went to my bed tonight 😂 don’t know how people can walk about with a human inside them when they don’t know! 🙈 good luck

Sarah13xx · 21/06/2022 20:19

Ahhh I need to read the rest of this!
