Anyone had this?
Just been for a early dating scan, baby all ok however she found a cyst measuring 6-7 cm, do I need to let my midwife know? Or get the nhs to look at this?
Thanks

Hi there, I have a 5cm cyst which was found before I got pregnant which the NHS has just re-scanned me for today (this was a pre-planned scan though as they didn't know I was pregnant if that makes sense and I'm only 7 weeks pregnant). I've been told the cyst is still there, and hopefully should resolve by the second trimester but will need extra monitoring. Mine is a simple functional cyst on my ovary though.

Do you know what type of cyst you have/where it is?

It's definitely worth telling your midwife as she will likely then arrange for extra scans/monitoring for you. I've been told that a cyst shouldn't bring extra risk to the baby though as long as it doesn't get too big x

I had a small cyst on one of my ovaries with my first and was given regular scans from 7-11weeks by the NHS until they were happy it was getting smaller and would go away on it's own.

It was lovely and reassuring to have the extra scans in those early weeks. I would speak with your midwife.

@Janey3090 The lady who scanned me couldn't say as it was a private clinic for pregnancy only so she didn't want to say. When will you get scanned again? I'm 7 weeks too.

@WorriedMum13 How big was your cyst to start with? Mines 6-7 cm already which is quite large. Hope it shrinks, extra scans would be beneficial and nice to see the baby, although I'm quite concerned now.

I've rang the Early pregnancy assessment and they're scanning me tomorrow morning so should hopefully know more.

My experience is a little different. 2 cysts left and right. Right is 5-6 cm left is 2-3cm. They were there before and during pregnancy. Nobody was at all worried, no extra monitoring. Was told would not affect the baby. Pregnancy and delivery all fine. Haven't heard anything since. Do mention to midwife though, maybe it's dealt with differently depending on trust.

I had extra monitoring, especially after 20 weeks so more scans.

I was consented to have it removed if I needed a section, but as I didn't they removed mine 6 months pp.

My cyst was 10cm though. It did give me cramp through my pregnancy but I was fine other than that.

I had a 2cm cyst at my 8 week scan which had been absorbed and disappeared by the 12 week scan, no one was worried about it I think it’s very common!

It’s very common to have cysts in your first trimester, most peoples get absorbed and know nothing about it as it’s disappeared by the 12 week scan. Mine burst at 11 weeks causing heavy bleeding but apart from that it was fine. It didn’t hurt, just the sight of blood that was obviously unnerving. I’m 21 weeks tomorrow and under consultant care as a precaution
