I'm on holiday in Spain atm and the last couple of days have had quite bad pains really low down by my pubic bone, urinating more often but no burning or anything, also had the odd pain around by my kidney yesterday. Anyway got saw at a private hospital today, checked over by a gynaecologist and baby checked. All fine but he said I've got a little urine infection. I've been given fosfomycin 3g which is a one dose tablet. Must be okay to take if given it by a doctor but just worried as it's not something I've heard of in the uk - anyone have any experience of this drug and whether it's fine to take ?
Thanks

It's a commonly prescribed antibiotic (and dose) to treat bladder infections here in Germany, especially in pregnancy. It's safe for you and the baby and works well as a one dose. I did hear that it's advisable to take at night and therefore avoid peeing for several hours!
They're strict about medications here so I wouldn't worry at all!

It’s fine to take in pregnancy and not. I’ve taken it for a hard to shift UTI here (other W European country) and I’m pretty sure I was prescribed it when living in the U.K. many years ago, I think it was called Monuril or something urine sounding though.

Thank you for responding. I was just unsure as I've really struggled anxiety wise and obviously want to shift a uti but was worried taking something I've never heard of, and also google throws up all sorts ! Saying yes it's fine if strictly needed to no don't take it !
But it reassures me you both say it's commonly prescribed.
I have the 3g sachet is this what you are familiar with ?

I’ve taken that many times in the UK for UTI. They don’t prescribe it much anymore due to it being something called a broad spectrum antibiotic and the UK is trying to crack down on antibiotic resistance.

Its fantastic and always worked overnight for my UTI! Take the sachet with some water before bed and hopefully you’ll be all ok tomorrow.

Studies have shown no sign of toxicity to the fetus or abnormalities - so I’d say you will be fine to take it.

@jimmyeatworld yep the 3g/3000mg dose is normal.

There’s no specific amount, but do enough so it all dissolves! If there are any granules left after you have drunk it then just put more water in the glass and finish it off!

Thank you !!
