HEADACHES!!!

HeadacheCentral3 · 24/05/2022 18:45

I'm 32 weeks pregnant.
For the last 4 days I've had horrendous headaches. I woke up in the middle of the night last night with a pounding head (probably after the paracetamol had worn off).

I'm drinking loads of water.
I have just been to the docs to provide a urine sample to see if I have a UTI - I don't.

Is this normal? I have read that headaches can increase in pregnancy. But I didn't think it would be all day and night.

Covid? I rang in regarding a headache a month or so back. I was testing negative at that time but within a few days had positive covid test. Headache was the worst part of it tbh

HeadacheCentral3 · 24/05/2022 20:41

@MrsTerryPratchett
It could possibly be that. I'm not sure. I've just messaged my GP so I will hopefully get an appointment tomorrow to double check.

@applecrumbler
I actually had covid when I was 14 weeks and the headaches were horrendous and lasted 2 weeks. I did mention this to triage as well. Hope to god it isn't covid as it was awful last time.

I've messaged my GP so they will likely call me tomorrow to book an appointment so I'll ask them to double check everything then. I haven't slept well either so not sure if that's contributed.
I've been waking up a lot in the night and not being able to go back to sleep. So the last few nights I've been awake from around 3/4am onwards.

Do you ever suffer from hayfever- I get nasty headaches with that

HeadacheCentral3 · 24/05/2022 20:50

@Cuwins
I don't usually get hay fever. My partner has very bad hay fever and has a tablet every day for it but it's not something I ever get.

@HeadacheCentral3 how are you today?

@HeadacheCentral3 how are you today?

Thank you for asking @Cuwins
I'm ok thank you. Still have a headache. It was very bad in the night. I've been having paracetamol. My partner called the hospital today and they've said for us to go in on Sunday to be checked out. I haven't heard back yet from my doctor.
I don't have any symptoms of anything else. Just the headache.

Posting to add my current experience and also to keep track of replies! I am in a similar situation, 37 weeks and this morning had a horrific sudden migraine lasting 5 hours with numbness and not being able to think or say certain words. I actually have a history of these type of migraines, but not had any for the whole pregnancy.

Anyway, I had a midwife appointment today and my urine and blood pressure were both fine. My midwife asked me about any hand or face swelling which I have none. Because I have a complete absence of other symptoms other than the headache, she said to just monitor it and it happens again call triage as they would want me in to do a blood test just in case.

I would absolutely definitely make sure your urine and blood pressure is showing as fine. Definitely don’t ignore headache symptoms at this stage of pregnancy!

HeadacheCentral3 · 25/05/2022 23:55

Well I came to the hospital earlier this evening as my headache still hasn't gone despite having paracetamol etc.
they've taken a urine sample which was fine.
Blood pressure which was within range.
Checked the baby - all seems fine.
And they've taken my bloods.

The doctor came to do some checks and ask me questions etc and they want to admit me over night and do a CT and possibly an MRI scan tomorrow.
I absolutely hate the thought of staying in the hospital but my partner is worried sick and wants me to stay.

I'm also so anxious about cancelling work tomorrow. I hate having time off work. I never have time off.
But I'll likely be here for most of the day waiting for the scans etc so I'll need to.

They said they want to check it isn't a blood clot.

While it won't be fun staying I think I would be with your partner on this given how long it's been going on.
Glad BP is ok though and baby looks good

HeadacheCentral3 · 26/05/2022 00:13

@Cuwins
Thank you.
Yes I'm glad all is ok with the baby. Yes the doctor said it's strange it's been 5 days. And it hurts more when I am getting up or going to sit or lie down, or if I bend over to pick something up which is why she wants to do the extra checks tomorrow.

Hi sorry to bring up an old post, I wanted to check if everything was okay? Hopefully it was just a long annoying headache. Having the same symptoms...

HeadacheCentral3 · 27/01/2025 09:50

@ZaraBlue

Hello, yes it's an old post and my daughter is now 2 and a half!

I did go in for the extra checks. They admitted me and I was there for 5 days. They were worried I had a blood clot because it hurt so much when I bent down to pick something up.

They did a CT scan and MRI scan and found a small tumour that they said was an incidental find and might not be causing the headaches but they did want me to reduce stress as much as possible as that can aggravate it.

They said they think the headaches could be stress related and advised me strongly to reduce any tasks that could be contributing to stress, to get rest etc.

I was in hospital for 5 days and the headaches did significantly reduce.

But then said they're glad I went to check because it could have been a sign on preeclampsia but in my case, it wasn't.

It's always worth getting it checked out.

Oh so pleased you were okay and have a gorgeous toddler now!! 💗
Are you just monitoring the tumour?
Thank you I will speak to the midwife tomorrow the headache seems to go by 10am just waking up with it!
