Many Antibiotics in Pregnancy

Hi Mums just curious if anyone has had to have many courses of antibiotics and been able to deliver healthy babies? I am very scared antibiotics might affect babys brain and microbiome. Any reassurance would be really helpful.

I'm 34 weeks now and since 21 weeks I've had recurrent illnesses. I've had 5 courses of oral antibiotics and 1 course of IV antibiotics. The 5th course I came home with was a very high dose as well. I'm under a consultant and after 3rd course I asked her the same question and she said the medicines will not affect baby at all. I've obviously not yet delivered but I trust this particular consultation and I'm slowly starting to feel well again. Its been a tough few months. If you need them then you need them. If you're not strong for baby then that's when baby will begin to struggle. Hope you feel better soon

I'm 26 weeks, I've only had one course but if you need them, you need them as pp says. The implications otherwise could be very serious.

If you need antibiotics then you have a bacterial infection which could be more harmful to the baby than the medication!

I had antibiotics for kidney infections, pleurisy, a normal chest infection, all whilst pregnant, then in labour for sepsis, and when my baby was born she had sepsis as well so she was straight onto antibiotics as soon as she was out! She's absolutely fine. She's got a little mark on one of her back teeth but that's it.
