Progesterone pessary to prevent preterm birth

So I'm 23 weeks and have been recently prescribed a progesterone pessary (cyclogest) at 1x400 mg per day due to previous preterm birth + contractions in this pregnancy.

Anyone else had this? Did you experience much in the way of side effects? I took the first last night and feel crap this morning with nausea, tiredness, brain fog, "fluey" weakness feeling in my legs... I was feeling pretty great before so pretty confident it's the pessary and not just normal pregnancy symptoms. Guess I could have picked up a germ, that's the only other thing I can think of.

I'm supposed to be on them till 36 weeks, so like three months! Please tell me the side effects get easier...

I was prescribed the same during my second pregnancy and didn't have any of the side effects you describe. The only unpleasant effect was the thick white discharge they produced. Yuck.

@HistoricMoment Oh yes, and the discharge too, but I think I could live with that!

Were you prescribed it later on in pregnancy too? I know it's most commonly used to prevent miscarriage early on.

I started at 25 weeks if I remember correctly. I have a history of preterm birth and my cervix was on the short side so I was prescribed progesterone as a precaution. I was on it until 34 weeks.

Perhaps you've caught a bug that is making you feel the way you do? I'd give it a couple of days to see if things settle down. Hope you feel better soon!

I had it in my last pregnancy, but 3 x 400mg a day from 24 weeks to 36 weeks due to my cervix shortening, it took a good week for any side effects to become apparent and they were mostly mood related and constipation.

This time I've been on just the 1 x 400mg from 14 weeks, currently 22 weeks and so far ok, apart from like others have mentioned, the discharge. Never had other side effects from it, and am quite sensitive to progesterone usually

Am crossing my fingers it's a germ🤞

I did have a tummy bug over the last few days. Thought it had cleared up as felt fine yesterday but maybe this is the tail end of it. I live in hope anyway as feel really rough!
