Dreaming of having a cold glass of prosecco after I give birth... after 9 months of drinking did you find you became a lightweight? Did your taste change?

I found I couldn’t really enjoy a drink for about 9 months after baby was born. I certainly did have a glass of wine or so in that time, but the pressures of having baby, exhaustion and knowing I’d need to be up in the night etc meant it wasn’t really the same. I’d been looking forward to a drink so much, but when baby arrived it just wasn’t on the agenda.

DP & I met a group of friends in a family beer garden a few weeks after she was born, I had 2 halves & he had 2 pints and we felt very over our limit when pushing the pram back to our home which was only a 5 min walk 😂. We decided we wouldn’t both drink at the same time with baby for a while longer after that x

Oh gosh, 9 more months @Fruby ?! Please don't say that's the norm!

DH had some lovely red wine and stinky cheese ready for my post delivery treat at home…my faves…After getting very excited at the prospect, I didn’t enjoy them! Took a few months to get my wine appreciation levels back to normal.

I also didn't enjoy it, found it just made me feel really tired and that was a shame as I couldn't enjoy the evening. That was with DS2.

I haven't actually bothered having a drink since DS3 was born, he's 7 months old Blush DH got champagne for new year and I made him save it to toast the birth and I never wanted to! Maybe for the first birthday since DS3 is our last baby.

I've never been much of a drinker though so don't go by my experience.

I’d say I was drinking red wine a couple of weeks after DS1 was born and enjoyed it.

Currently pregnant with number 2, I have no qualms about the odd alcoholic drink in pregnancy (read Emily Oster on this; she’s great) but actually, as was the case with DS1, the thought of red wine makes me feel queasy even in my advanced second trimester so it’s been mainly sparkling - not a Prosecco fan but champagne, cava and cremant. So can’t see that changing post birth.

Completely the same. Looking forward to a glass of red in 5 weeks time Wine

DD1 was born at Christmas, so my first post-pregnancy alcoholic drink was a huge glass of mulled wine. It tasted amazing.

After DD1 was born I had a lovely glass of Moët, was hoping I had turned into a lightweight but it was the complete opposite haha. Currently 15 weeks and can’t think of anything worse than an alcoholic drink!

I craved red wine for my entire pregnancy last time, used to sniff DHs glass, I had a large glass a couple of weeks after DD was born and it was really lovely :)

Can't wait for a chilled rose champagne. 🥰

Arecklessmanor · 10/04/2022 18:45

I didn't drink when pregnant and now the baby is 3 months old I still haven't.
We were a wine with dinner kind of household but I have no appetite for it now.
A few friends sent champagne to congratulate us on the birth and it hasn't been touched. Not sure when I will feel like it again.

I had red wine and steak and sourdough bread and spinach delivered to the birthing unit after two days of not being able to eat anything at all. It was great. This did not reflect most of my postnatal menu which needed to be eaten with one hand and not need cooking or any time not feeding reflux baby and was horrible.

Second baby walked out to hawskmoor and had similar but with chips too I think.
