Advice on progesterone after miscarriage

I’ve had two miscarriages in the first half of last year, I’ve finally fallen pregnant again (5 weeks) and I’m desperate to try progesterone this time to try and give me the best chance of keeping this one.
I’ve rung around a few fertility clinics but they will only prescribe to existing paitients and I’m waiting to hear back from my GP who said they would have to write to someone else to ask advice as it’s not something they would normally offer.
My friend has given me a spare box of Lutigest leftover from an IVF cycle but it’s a box of 21 which would be a weeks supply if I tried the recommended dose of 3 a day. (Although I thought I could take 1 or 2 a day to make it last longer??)
Has anyone got any experience in trying it without say so from the doctor as part of me wants to try and part of me is reluctant to use something that hasn’t been prescribed for me.
I’m also thinking if I do somehow manage to get a prescription it may be cyclogest or a different brand so not sure if they are interchangeable??
Any advice work experience would be great fully received
Xxx

Hi DreamyUnicorn,

Are you UK based or somewhere else? I think there is a big difference in medical opinion between the UK and everywhere else! I really want to go for the consultation I’m just worried I’ll pay and get told the same
thing, just to try again as it’s only happened once early on in pregnancy.

@Niko2525…….. during the consult he did an online prescription and then sent you a payment link! The online consult was £250 and then it was £75 for a months supply of progesterone and he gave me two repeats so enough to take me to 14 weeks which is what he recommended.
to be honest I’ve had no follow up with him or my GP about it but I think it’s very safe to take and it’s kind of under the ‘ won’t do any harm but could help’.
I also take 150mg aspirin nightly and have been doing since BFP.
I did that off my own back as it seems to be something that helps a lot of people….. again it can’t do any harm but could help!
i think because it’s private he will agree to do it as you are paying! My GP wouldn’t as I had ‘only had 2’ loses!!

@dreamyunicorn ……. Yes I’m still so wary!! If this does work out I’m not sure when I will let myself get exited!! I got a scan at early pregnancy unit at 7 weeks because of the previous loses and then I’ve also had 2 private as I did the harmony test at 10 weeks ( I’m 40 so was worried about chromosomal issues). thanks so much willow for your response! It seems exactly what I need.
for the two repeat prescriptions, is that £75 each time or just for him to write the prescriptions and then you pay normal nhs prescription prices?

Willow11981 · 21/05/2022 20:36

@Niko2525 …:… no worries at all!
no it’s £75 for the cost of the progesterone for a months supply., so each time you order the repeat you have to pay…… private docs and prescriptions def aren’t cheap unfortunately!!! X
