You can be fertile at any time. Any time. Go for the mAP/

goingfor3 · 06/01/2008 10:09

Yes you are fertile a few days after your period ends, if you don't want to be pregnant take the MAP.

Biglips · 06/01/2008 10:10

you have got up to 72 hours to take the MAP if you dont want to be pg

Islamum · 06/01/2008 10:11

I think you are safe for the first 5 days of your cycle - day 1 being the first day of your period if your periods are regular. I'm saying this from memory of reading taking charge of your fertility, don't take it as gospel

PellMell · 06/01/2008 10:17

Thanks O.K!

Dh and I obviously need to talk this through then.
hmmmmmm

if you are at all unsure about whether you would want to be pregnant, get the MAP, the sooner the better. on the whole women tend to conceive in the middle of their cycle, but all sorts of exceptions to the rule , so don;t take a chance

SlightlyMadShrek · 06/01/2008 10:19

Islamum.

It used to be assumed that everyone ovulated 14 days before AF. If that was true and you had a regular 28 day cycle with 5day bleed you could have unprotected sex for about 5 days after AF finished without risk of pregnancy.

However I have seen research which says that the 14day ovulation rule is not the case, which means that some women Ov 3 days before OV, some ov 21 days before AF.

If PellMell ov 21 days before ov she would certainly be at risk of pg.

Bottom line message it is never safe to have unprotected sex without risjk of pregnancy

I'm so annoyed with myself. I am so used to being in control with contraception and I wasn't last night.
I don't normally take chances at all.

It's strange how being careless has actually revealed that both dh and I are not so anti the idea of another child.
I really do need to give this a lot of thought.
I feel really stupid for needing a bit of support but there are lots of issues to consider.
When I had my first baby 18 years ago who is severely disabled, I never would have imagined that I would have a couple more children after such a huge gap.
dd2 is 2.6
I have discoverd over night that dh would love us to try for another baby.
I guess thats what we did last night

The sensible side of me just wants to run off and get a morning after pill

We were using the calendar method as a form of contraceptive and got pg after 4 months

So it is possible.

PellMell · 06/01/2008 11:00

I had some surgery a some months back and was advised to remain completely free of hormone controlled contaceptive to get my periods back on track.

My periods have been very regular for the last 3 months but thought I would wait until seeing the consultant (next month)to make a decision about birth control.

Dh and I have been using condoms on the rare occasions that we do it (hee hee I'm a grown up and that still sounds wrong)
Anyway as I said there are lots of reasons why we have privately and publicly declared that we did not want any more children.

I had a great night out with friends and a few bacardi's later....
I am annoyed with dh for not taking control and feel like he bloody knew he was actively trying to get me pregnant. It isn't his fault because i was a willing participant
I feel like I was letting down my guard a bit just on the physical side of things.

sorry for boring everyone.

I don't think I am brave enough to have another baby.

This is how I got DS1 & DS2

Islamum · 06/01/2008 20:19

Just to clarify, the contraception method in 'Taking charge of your fertility' doesn't rely on the 14 day rule, but teaches about how to spot when you are ovulating, once you have ovulated you can't concieve, I remember the first 5 days are safe, but can't remember exactly the circumstances, we used the method to concieve rather than avoid it.

Spidermama · 06/01/2008 20:26

I'm also reading that book. Great isn't it? It should be on the secondary school curriculum.

orangehead · 06/01/2008 20:26

Apparently average women overlate between day 12 to day 14. But I always ovaluate about day 6 to 7, know this firstly because of the symptoms I get when ovaluate and also every time Im preg (5 times)the scan confirms I am a week more preg than what my dates should be. Every woman is different when they ovaluate, so I would treat it as if there is a chance

PellMell · 12/01/2008 15:16

ok thanks all for your replies.
Been feeling a bit queezy for a couple of days.
I had a funny sensation of nipple discomfort today whilst very busy with toddler (it struck a chord as I was so preoccupied)
So I know usually this would be far too early to do a test and dh thinks I should wait for my period as usual.
I am only on day 13 of my cycle now and if I am pregnant,I can only possibly have concieved 8 days ago.
Am I deranged????

OP posts:
SexySAHM · 12/01/2008 15:36

You are not deranged at all, I knew I was pregnant 5 days after conceiving. The give away for me was that I had VERY soar boobs.

PellMell · 12/01/2008 15:42

thanks for your reply. I have been pregnant 3 times befor (have 2 dd's)
Each time I was feeling sick about a week befor period due.
Must try not to look for symptoms
I am probably fine!!! (crossed fingers)

scaryhairycat · 12/01/2008 16:21

Don't forget sperm can last up to 5 or even 7 days in the body, so if you are relying on the rythym method, you can still get caught out by this.

PellMell · 13/01/2008 17:31

well I have done a lloyds chemist test today that was negative in the time specified. It does however have a clear faint blue line (not evaporation line) now. I understand positive results outside the specified time are unreliable.
I just feel like I know I'm pregnant!!!

I had the shortest period every (1st since coil removal in June) is there any point in TTC straight after my period ended? It last 2.5 days I know the swimmers can last 5 days but don't know if I should just hold on till the ovulation week?

MichelleOR84 · 30/06/2020 21:15

I’m currently 20 weeks pregnant from having sex on day 5/6 of my period . The only sex I had . So YUP!!

chrissagcat · 01/07/2020 06:16

@MichelleOR84 thank you! May I ask do you know if you are having a boy or a girl? I have 2xDD and curious about the theory about it being closer to ovulation window for boy?

MichelleOR84 · 01/07/2020 07:02

Nope , I didn’t find out ! I’m one of those annoying people who like to wait haha !
