Did anyone conceive contrary to settles/babydust method?

I want gender to be a surprise but I have heard a lot of people swearing by the babydust method. One thing babydust method says is having sex multiple times near, or on ovulation day almost guarantees a boy whereas having sex once a few days before ovulation is more likely to mean a girl and if that's the case then I pretty much already know what gender. Does anyone have experience of the opposite happening, I'm trying to convince myself it's still a surprise?

Not even heard of this before. I had sex the day before ovulation and I am having a girl.

SaraKitty · 19/03/2022 22:04

I conceived on ovulation day and had 3 girls

SaraKitty · 19/03/2022 22:04

I should add that this goes against that method so I don’t believe in jt

DramaAlpaca · 19/03/2022 22:05

I conceived each time on ovulation day and had three boys.

DramaAlpaca · 19/03/2022 22:06

I don't believe it either, pure coincidence.

JMPB · 19/03/2022 22:11

Conceived on ovulation day & having a girl.

I don’t believe in any of those methods if I’m honest x

RedRobin100 · 19/03/2022 22:13

It’s genetics. I don’t see how timing could impact anything..?

I think the theory is that ‘boy’ sperm are faster, but don’t tend to live as long whereas ‘girl’ sperm are slower but live longer. So if you have sex a few days before ovulation then you’re more likely to conceive a girl as the fast boy sperm have died, but if you have sex very close to ovulation then it’s more likely to be a boy as they get there first.
GahAndTheBear · 19/03/2022 22:29

It’s basically chance.

RedRobin100 · 19/03/2022 22:39

Still not sold I don’t think - although am definitely not a geneticist!

TheAbbotOfUnreason · 19/03/2022 22:42

It’s really 50/50 when it comes to the sex (not gender) at conception. It’s probably more important to know that conception is most likely in the 6 days prior to ovulation.

Jupiter92 · 20/03/2022 00:11

This can’t be true! The sex is determined by the sperm? How would it work?

RedRobin100 · 20/03/2022 05:20

You mean 6 days AFTER ovulation?
RedRobin100 · 20/03/2022 05:26

@TheAbbotOfUnreason. Sorry, what I meant was your fertile what can be the 6 days prior to ovulation, but conception can only actually occur after ovulation
Fertile window and conception/actual fertilisation being different things

ThisOneNow · 20/03/2022 06:23

Our 3 DCs (1dd, 2ds) were all the opposite of what you'd expect from that method.

DoobryWhatsit · 20/03/2022 06:26

Have you ever heard of boy/girl twins?!

MargaritasOnMe · 20/03/2022 06:34

I believe this theory has been de-bunked. There's no evidence that sperm is faster or slower depending on whether it's a girl or boy. I thinks odds are affected by the number of girl and boy sperms the man carries. Some men have more boy sperm and some have more girl - this is genetic. So, as the woman, there's not much sway you can have to be honest.

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 20/03/2022 07:46

I really don't think it is as simple as that

Dc1 sex once few days before ovulation
Girl

Dc2 sex frequently around ovulation
Boy

Dc3 sex frequently around ovulation
Girl

Dc4 sex frequently around ovulation
Girl

Dc5 sex frequently around ovulation
Girl

Dc6 sex once few days before ovulation
Boy

Dc7 sex once few days before ovulation
Boy

Dc8 sex once 6 days before period due
Girl

Timing of Sexual Intercourse in Relation to Ovulation — Effects on the Probability of Conception, Survival of the Pregnancy, and Sex of the Baby

CONCLUSIONS
Among healthy women trying to conceive, nearly all pregnancies can be attributed to intercourse during a six-day period ending on the day of ovulation. For practical purposes, the timing of sexual intercourse in relation to ovulation has no influence on the sex of the baby.

The perm have to be in place before the egg is released as the spermicide
Live longer than the egg and have a fair way to swim t go meet the egg. So yes sex before ovulation conceives babies.

both times everything was pretty much the same for me and I have a boy and a girl.

It's all down to the sperm. Nothing else at all

incompetentcervix · 20/03/2022 08:52

Sorry wriggling tiny baby - keeps knocking my phone so I can't type

SockQueen · 20/03/2022 08:52

I think I'd question the scientific rigour of any method called "babydust."

Pamparam · 20/03/2022 09:01

@DoobryWhatsit

Surely this is all the evidence you need that it’s nonsense OP?

Anecdotally I always conceive on day of ovulation and have 2 girls.

This is an extremely good point
