Hello

I went to the Maternity unit last night as hadn’t felt baby move all day -i’m 20+2. I’ve been feeling him move a lot for the past week & a half so phoned for reassurance & they suggested i go in

Couldn’t find heartbeat on doppler but they found he was totally fine during ultrasound, thank god

They tested my urine & said it contained Nitrates & have prescribed me antibiotics for a UTI, Cephalexin 500mg 3 times daily. Though I don’t have burning when i urinate but am urinating a lot. They didn’t really say much more than that & sent me on my way

Is Nitrates in urine a common occurrence during pregnancy? As well as UTI’s? I googled stupidly & it says that UTIs are dangerous throughout pregnancy so it has me worried

Have any of you had Nitrates in urine & been sorted out by antibiotics?

Thank you

Firstly sorry you've had such a worrying few hours and glad baby is ok

Uti's are very common in pregnancy. I'm 36 weeks and had one a few weeks ago. They only are dangerous if left untreated where they could develop into kidney infections but sounds like they caught it nice and early. I also had very little symptoms just like you peeing a lot but only passing small amounts. Try not to worry if they were worried at rhe hospital about the uti they would tell you 😊

Yep. I'd never had a UTI in my life until I got pregnant, and ended up with a UTI in each pregnancy after that (4 children). Completely shifted with antibiotics. Not to worry! As PP said, it's only a worry if they're untreated and head to the kidneys. X
