Bled for one day at 6 weeks - scan on Saturday!

Hey ladies

Looking for reassurance

I'm 6 weeks pregnant and feel great so far. But on Saturday after a dog walk and some powerful incline I had a bleed! It wasn't painful at all but did cover my pants. It lasted just over an hour but continued with very light almost missable spotting for a day.

The midwife suggested I may just have been having an 'episode'. I know it can happen sometimes after sex and it had been a day after, so I'm scared to do it again!!

I also had period like pains that weren't as intense yesterday but no blood now. I'm not too worried as Ive read it can be quite common but my mum got in a panic as obvs can indicate miscarriage, but surely if it meant miscarriage it would happened by now (bleed was 2 days ago) and be painful??

I have a private scan on Saturday - didn't really want to do it as it may have to be internal as I'm under 10 weeks and not sure if this is good for the foetus??

Anyway hope I get to see everything is all good in there. Any similar experiences please share :)

Hello! Sorry to hear you've had some bleeding, it's so scary in early pregnancy. I had 'episodes' of bleeding all through my 1st pregnancy with my DS. Starting from about 5-6 weeks and had them pretty much monthly the whole way through. I had lots of scans through the NHS because of it and they never found a cause for it, but luckily it never caused any harm to the baby. I'm also 8 weeks pregnant now and had 2 episodes of bleeding, had scans at EPU both times and luckily again baby had been fine, but this time they have seen I have a small heamatoma. So definitely doesn't mean the worst, everything could still be absolutely fine, fingers crossed for you. I have also had a miscarriage last year, I had spotting for 5 days which turned into heavy bleeding with clots, so if it's a small amount which has stopped that's a positive sign Smile xx

Aw thank you @aaidyl! Sorry you had to go through a miscarriage but I'm glad to hear you made it through a pregnancy safely despite the bleeding. How heavy was the 'safe' bleeding may I ask? And were you ever in pain? Congrats on your recent pregnancy and thanks so much for the reassurance 😊 xx

The blood was bright red, like a light period, when I went to the toilet it was red in the toilet and in the paper, but not a lot in my pad, hard to describe but it wasn't loads but enough to be quite worried xx

I have just changed my username just to clear up any confusion Smile

I have been bleeding on and off since 6 weeks and I am now nearly 10 ! Constant brown blood but no cause as to why it’s been happening !! I have cysts on my ovaries which I think may be a factor to it, hopefully nothing too serious !! But like you it started after i went a long walk with the dog

mum2be99 · 28/02/2022 21:57

Mine was literally the same @coffeebabes!!

What is it with dog walks @LawrenceChaney22!! I hope all is okay - have you booked a scan? What did your midwife say?

@mum2be99 yeah all was fine ! I had three scans, the latest one being last Sunday as I’m just so paranoid with the constant bleeding, was told it could be implantation as it can leave a sac of blood behind when it happens ! 12 week scan in 3 weeks so hopefully all is still well

mum2be99 · 01/03/2022 07:24

Glad to hear it @LawrenceChaney22 - it's so much more common than I expected and it should be more well known so women don't go into a panic. I was crying my eyes out and so was my OH! The bleeding episode and mild cramps have been the only sign I'm pregnant because other than that no symptoms, other than I've gone off mushrooms which were my favourite thing before 😂

Internal scans are 100% safe and cannot harm the fetus so best to get checked

mum2be99 · 01/03/2022 19:06

Thanks @thedaydreambelievers - the clinic has advised internal, better than getting in a panic about them not being able to see much on a abdominal. It's only the size of a grain of rice after all!

At my 6 week scan at the EPU they tried abdominal first and we saw everything and was measuring 6 weeks exactly Smile so they might try abdominal scan and they might be able to see, if bit they'll do transvaginal x

theveryhungrycatapillar · 01/03/2022 20:20

I bled with both of mine at around 6 weeks both a one off episode and both times it was fine and they gave me no explanation x

mum2be99 · 02/03/2022 10:26

That's very reassuring @theveryhungrycatapillar !! As far as I can tell I'm the same. Only symptoms I'm getting is mild cramps on a night but I'm glad because I've had no other symptoms !!

Hi all

Just thought I'd update so it hopefully reassures people for future :)

After having a bleeding scare last week, went for a internal scan today and baby is growing okay and heartbeat recognised! Dated at 7 weeks which was in line with my own dates :)

The bleeding was from some sort of hemorrhage which sounds terrible but it's quite common and will eventually go away. It might lead to more dark blood (old blood) but it's normal and doesn't impact the pregnancy negatively :)
