Am I too big at 15 weeks?

So I'm getting a lot of people very surprised that my due date is August 17th because I look big enough to be full term already.

I did have a big gut before falling pregnant but I used to always tense it. Now I can't do that because of the bloating and I am embarrassed about how large I look when my bump is only just supposed to be showing.

I've seen online that "all bumps are different" but I haven't found any examples of bumps like mine at week 15.

I'm worried there's something wrong with me. Sorry about the darkness in the picture our lightbulb is buggered.

Am I too big at 15 weeks?

Lovely bump!

Not too big. Is it your first child?

Figgygal · 25/02/2022 21:27

Completely unscientific view but that is quite a bump so early on
How tall are you? Im 5ft 10 long in body and barely showed at 15wks
Unless a medical professional comments though i wouldnt be concerned

Has the MW measured it? They usually measure fundal height at each appointment; so if it fell outside of their range of normal they would likely book a growth scan.

kagerou · 25/02/2022 21:29

When was your last scan? I had a friend as big as you around 15 weeks because she has a lot of fluid around the pregnancy, no harm in it whatsoever and her baby was average size but maybe ask if that could be the reason when you're next scanned Smile

glastogal · 25/02/2022 21:31

I developed an early bump with both pregnancies and looked very pregnant by 15w with my 1st!! Always measured fine and he was an average size, everyone grows their bumps differently. Yours is lovely!!

LifeIsBusy · 25/02/2022 21:31

This was me... I'm 5ft 10 but just carried massive bumps both pregnancies.

EarringsandLipstick · 25/02/2022 21:32

It does like a really big bump for 15 weeks. However, as long as MW / doctors are happy, that's all that matters. Congratulations.

whysoserious123 · 25/02/2022 21:33

Like you said every bump is different. Any concerns ask your midwife

Firstchilddue2022 · 25/02/2022 21:34

Yep

This was me at 15 weeks. We went on holiday and the checkin desk didn't believe I was only 15 weeks. I had to show my pregnancy notes . Relax and enjoy your bump . You will even out in the next trimester

Firstchilddue2022 · 25/02/2022 21:36

I'm so happy to meet you. I'm going to cry now. Omg. I feel like an alien. What did you say to people who commented? So many asking if it's twins or if I've got the due date wrong.

Fundal height isn't measured until 26-28 weeks.

You do look big for 15 weeks, might be worth seeing the GP for a check up. Was everything ok on your dating scan- no fibroids?

Firstchilddue2022 · 25/02/2022 21:38

Why the hell did they need to see your pregnancy notes that's insane?! Thanks for this though. I feel so abnormal.

OP posts:
Firstchilddue2022 · 25/02/2022 21:40

I have a "huge fibroid" according to the ultrasound tech. She said it won't obstruct the baby but would put pressure on my bladder. Could that be causing it?

PinkButtercups · 25/02/2022 21:41

That is a large bump for 15 weeks but embrace it. You'll even out over time.

Firstchilddue2022 · 25/02/2022 21:42

Baby growth was deemed normal.

It is large for 15 weeks. As pps suggested, I'd request to check fluid levels and also to have bloods checked for gestational diabetes.

I'm 5ft 4inches and long in the body, short in the legs.

It's not insane re pregnancy notes at all, btw, every airline has a cut off point after which thry don't fly pregnant women in the third trimester for safety reasons.

RoseValleyRambles · 25/02/2022 21:46

I have fibroids and I'm pretty sure they're contributing to a larger than normal bump too. The way I think about it, I've effectively been carrying twins for the first 20 weeks. But always worth a midwife chat if you're worried.

Firstchilddue2022 · 25/02/2022 21:47

I was big for my 12 week scan and they only mentioned the fibroid. Will definitely ask more questions for 20 week scan.

@Firstchilddue2022 I am also 15 weeks! And I look exactly the same. Everyone's body is different. If like me you didn't have washboard abs to begin with then they can give way a bit sooner than more toned tummies which means everything pops out earlier. Nothing to worry about x

Firstchilddue2022 · 25/02/2022 21:52

Oh! I thought it was the holiday venue checking! My bad.

I'm 15 weeks too, I'm not far off this big after I've eaten breakfast. I wake up, not very big then poof I eat and my bump balloons. Does this sound similar? You might just be showing early on.

I read your first post that it was the hotel check in asking to see your notes!
