Were your babies weight prediction at 33 weeks correct?

Hi,

Today I had a scan and all was well.
33 weeks today and baby apparently weighs 4lb 10oz.
Im now terrified!

I know this is in normal range but I was 5lb something at birth at 37 weeks so I am thinking this baby is gonna be huge!
I wasn't expecting it at all as my bump is small and I haven't gained that much weight, I'd actually asked if this was okay for the baby just before she told me the predicted weight!

Did anyone have this weight at 33 weeks and what were they born?
I'm even more scared of the birth now.

No.
In fact they gave me an extra couple of scans later on and kept saying ‘big baby’ & ‘Baby is measuring big’.
Frightened me to death. He was 8lb1 so hardly a whopper.

DD was estimated at 5lbs at 31 weeks so imagine how much I was shitting myself ha, she was born at 40+6 weighing 7lbs 2oz so it was way off

My son was 6 pounds at 34 weeks and 9lb 9.5 when born so I reckon it was corrected. Does it not just mean you should expect around a 7/8lb baby?

Mine was predicted to be at least 10lb based on my fortnightly scans.
He was born 10 days early at 8lb 6oz. The most recent scan had said he was already 9lb.
I had a c-section and everyone thought he looked huge and couldn't wait to see the weight. Lots of disappointed faces when they saw he was a lot lighter than expected Grin.

Can't remember what predicted weight was at 32 weeks (I think it was ~4lb 5), but at 36 weeks baby was estimated 6lb 15. She came a week later weighing in at 7lb 5, so pretty much bang on assuming 8oz gain per week. Birth, while induced, was absolutely fine. My sister had a similar sized if not bigger baby at 36 weeks, and delivered a 9lb 7 chunk at 42 weeks. Her birth was even better than mine! Hopefully some women who got a bit further than I did with similar sized/bigger babies will be along for further reassurance.

Growth scans can be notoriously inaccurate. Seems like it is a coin flip as to if they're accurate, or way off.

And by the way my 9lb 9.5 birth was a walk in the park compared to the 6lb birth. So weight doesn't determine what labour will be like.

I had a scan at 34 weeks and they guessed baby weighed 8lb 3oz then he was born at 41 weeks weighing 10lb 12oz so I'm not sure of the accuracy honestly as I doubt that's all he grew in 7 weeks. Although I had another one 5 days before he was born and they guessed 11lb 3oz and he wasn't too far from that in the end

Nelliephant1 · 24/02/2022 17:21

They predicted my son to be 7.5lbs two days before he was born. He was 9lb 11oz so they were waaaay off 🤣

I'm still pregnant so can't confirm but baby was estimated 4lb 11ozs at 31 weeks. If you follow the line that makes him around 9-10lbs at term. We will see in a couple of weeks! DS was 8lb 12 ozs so I'm not expecting this one to be much smaller then that.

WarrickDavisAsPlates · 24/02/2022 17:34

Bigger babies don't always mean a difficult birth, ds2 was 9lb 6 and my easiest birth by far.

A 7-8lb baby is perfectly normal weight and I've heard that (up to a certain point) larger babies can be easier as to give birth to. I tend to believe this as all my babies were a "decent" size (7lb 11, 9lb 13 and 9lb 6) and only one labour was tricky.

Try not to worry too much about your babies size as there's nothing you can do to influence it anyway.

No. I’m afraid they significantly underestimated both of mine. No GD but tall parents and I have a long abdomen which they both hid in!

My eldest was estimated to be 2lb 5oz at 33+1, he was born the next day weighing 2lb 14oz.
My youngest was estimated at 3lb 9oz at 33+5 and was expected to be 6lb+ at birth at 36 weeks, he was born at 36+6 weighing 5lb 3oz
