Anyone had negative tests but was pregnant?

If I was pregnant I would be about 6 months by now. Belly is swollen to about what I normally look like 6 months pregnant. All tests (about 5 altogether since I thought I might be) have come back negative.

I have had two sporadic periods so thought I’m not and it might just be the fact my timing is now becoming irregular (I’m 40)? But then I thought what If I actually am and it’s some possible placenta issue?

Have requested a scan but doctors are not interested unless I show up with a positive pregnancy test.

I’ve thought about the idea that it’s all in my head, but I then thought that would be for someone who perhaps had been TTC? (I hadn’t been)

I’ve got two children so have experience of pregnancy, and it’s the “kicks” and movements when I least expect it that makes me think I am.
Could be some digestive issue, of course

Breasts are tender. Just feel like an idiot pestering the doctor again for a scan to rule it out (although I was a bit annoyed that they didn’t offer to make an appointment to see me on account of the fact that I might have IBS or chron’s or something similar, or to rule out allergies, although I understand that they are so busy at the moment. )

Guess I’ll find out in 3-4 months one way or another. I can’t really afford a private scan.
Maybe I could press another surgery for a scan?

@Nikki037297 Thank you, your post was so reassuring. To hear that your friend had just been living unaware she was pregnant and the baby was absolutely fine. I’m sure this is most often the case but you do hear so much of “oh the mum did xyz on day x week y of the pregnancy and that harmed the baby”. It’s so different when you plan to conceive like I did with my previous children. You’re all prepared with your folic acid and so on. It so different when it takes you by surprise and you’ve neglected your nutrition and body.

@Wartywart that’s exactly what I suspected. I’m sure the tests are designed for very early on in pregnancy, not for someone 6 months gone!

@teaandchocolate1 yes good point. It’s going to be embarrassing if it’s just digestive issue, but I do notice an increase in movement if I eat something very sweet or hot. This is the thing, you’re not really supposed to even eat super sweet things in pregnancy, that’s why I want to know once and for all.

@Londondreams1 do you not have a private scan place in your area? Usually they do a pregnancy confirmation scan which isn't to expensive

You wouldn't be the first woman that had an unknown pregnancy.

I vaguely remember a woman on mumsnet that this happened to in 2020 or 2021?

Can’t you feel any shape if you lay flat and press around your stomach? I would think at 6months you would be able to feel something

Could you not get a private scan to put your mind at rest? They are only about £60, well with it to ease your mind.

@Hmum0fthree @Qwill Yes I’ve found a private scan clinic in the next town, I’ll do that.
Poundland has run out of £1 tests and I’ve really already spent too much on the clear blue ones, but they said check back tomorrow so...

@Dodie66 I’ve had a press around just now but can’t feel anything baby like. I’ll look at the YouTube’s like you suggested.

Swear I felt it “dancing” i.e moving when I was listening to music before. That’s got to be my imagination.

How did you get on? I am 43 and currently late for my period although only around 5 weeks but have negative tests. Came across your thread whilst looking to see if anyone else has been through similar.

Update - no not pregnant, massive massive relief, and a big lesson to me in making sure I choose those I sleep with wisely. I got caught up in the whole panic of what if, amd with there being the possibility of it (to cut a long story short I had only ever previously slept with my ex husband without a condom, this guy said he'd had the snip and I was so into him I just went for it, but then I'd heard there could be slip ups and there was no doubting the physical symptoms so I'm just putting it down to one of those things.

I can't recall saying I wish I was pregnant! I mightve done but do you remember the context of the post. I suppose I do in a way, come to think of it, as at 41 i dont have time on my side, whereas 6 months ago the thought would've made my blood run cold. Its like I'd gotten used to the idea I might be so going through another pregnancy (I have teen children) doesn't feel like a big deal, I'm psychologically up for it. BUT never like this again, the dad would have to be on board with it and I have to get all my ducks in a row financially (and find a man but let's not get caught up in details)

Hey all , was wondering if anyone could give me some advice .
Last period 11/5/22
Ovulation 25/5/22 or there abouts
Obviously has intercourse on OV day , day before and day after .
Sat/sun 5DPO and 6DPO had spotting when wiped from going for wee.
7,8 and 9DPO had cramps in uterus and lower back like AF cramps just not as bad , nausea , insomnia, tiredness during the day up until 12dpo.
now my symptoms are groin ache , swollen and veiny breasts.
AF due yesterday and always on time but not showed up
Testing negative
GP and early pregnancy unit aren't being much help other than telling me to wait and that my symptoms are consistent with pregnancy. I suffer with quite bad anxiety and been testing daily and it's becoming so disappointing seeing the negative although I've had a couple of faint positive with clear blue but went onto negatives with cheap tests.
Has anyone experienced this and had positive tests later on rather than sooner ?
My son is 16 months and was completely different as home pregnancy test lit up like a Xmas tree at 4 weeks .
Should I demand a blood test or wait till either positive test or AF arrives although both of those seem hard to do 😔😔. I hope I am pregnant but you read things on the internet and start worrying .

@Sianxo Hi. I'm similar but can't find answers.
I'm on day 38 of my cycle with negative tests still. My cycles range from 29-34 days so about 4 days late.

I have tingly nipples but no pain like usual when I'm due on. A horrible full uncomfortable feeling low down in my abdomen and low back ache too....I don't suffer usually with either of those. I men I get bloating regularly but not this awful dull full feeling and back pain too.

I'm almost 43 though so might be age related or onset peri menopause but I did have an ectopic pregnancy November last yr and tested positive before my af was even due! Iv no idea what's goin on with me but I feel so lousy with it.

Frustrating isn't it my periods have been like clock work and I'm never late. I've been told HCG could take up to two weeks after missed period in urine to show up .
Docs and early pregnancy unit aren't helpful at all and won't see me till i would be 6 weeks pregnant or two weeks late for AF. I turn 30 in just over a week .

I'm bloated like im 4 months pregnant the symptoms I've had I have never had between AFs ..

@Missb11 Well I had a bfn this morn again. 5 days late now 🥲 nipple twinges, tummy aches but no sign of period what so ever.
Who told you it can take 2 weeks after a missed period to show positive? Wouldn't you have had to have ovualted late for that to happen? I never track my ovualtion, Iv just gone by the Flo apps predictions but once I do come on, I will start buying ovulation tests as it's a nuisance wondering what's going on.

It's shocking the unknown.
Did a dip test this morning still negative and still no sign of even the slightest sign of AF.
my partner explained to me today after never telling me that when he had his daughter with his ex , they had negative tests up till about 8 weeks .so part of me thinks this could be the same but it's the unknown , it does happen getting negatives right up to week past missed period or even longer . Best thing to do is keep your hopes levelled and just relax coz the more you stress the more your going to affect yourself .

@Missb11 it was my GP that said sometimes it can take HCG to show up a little longer on urine tests , up to week or even more xx

Oh right! I'm not holding out hope for myself though 😞Think I'll lay off testing for a few days and assume I'm not.

I got positive blood test as kep getting negative tests at home but no sign of AF. 🥳🥳 i turn 30 in 6 days so it's lovely present for me xx

Well I'm on day 42 (8 days late) and still negative tests. Im going to see if I can get in the drs tomorrow. My cervix has been very high for days now so it's so weird and Iv had no spotting what so ever like I usually have every month. I'm still so bloated and my boobs feel swollen but not painful, just a little tender near my nipples. I just don't understand what's going on. I'm cramping again today and just feel so off and tired. I thinking it stress or peri menopause for me but will see what drs say and let you know.
