Can't quite believe I'm typing this but need some advice as now a little concerned...
been going through ivf the last couple of years, failed fet, cancelled fet and mmc in November. By some miracle I find myself pregnant naturally ! Do I need to take progesterone etc ??? Anyone who's been in this situation plz help. I will ring my clinic first thing to confirm obviously but would love to hear off anyone else this has happened too.
In complete shock!!

Yep my little miracle is wriggling around on the sofa next to me aged nearly 4 months.

We had 10 years of unprotected sex... 5 years TTC before successful ICSI and FET for our first 2 children.

We had very severe male factor infertility with 95% antisperm antibodies. Basically no chance. Well, very little chance Grin

We spoke to the fertility clinic and they advised that it should just proceed as any natural pregnancy would. This was partly due the infertility being male factor. If I had a specific issue that the IVF was dealing with, perhaps it might be different?

Be prepared for your emotions to be all over the shop. You'd think I'd be happy after 10 years of never having a natural pregnancy but I wasn't. I was totally confused and blindsided and it was difficult to process it all.

Good luck to you Star

This has just happened to a friend of a friend and she has been prescribed progesterone.
Best of luck xxx

Wow congratulations on all your miracle babies!! Isn't life funny ??? I'm in major shock, full of adrenaline. Extremely happy but the fear is starting to creep in. Had a mmc in November after a fet, and it absolutely crushed me. Really felt sorry for myself for quite a while. It's 8 years to the month I conceived ds! Just can't believe how life works ! Just worried I should be taking something. Ivf was due to pcos and just not getting pregnant. I have actually had blood tests done this month to look for clotting issues so definitely concerned 😕

In that case they might want to prescribe something. At least they have done some investigations already so might have some idea of what is going on and what could help.

I can't imagine the pain of the MMC, we're so lucky as both of our embryo transfers stuck. Fingers crossed for this little one too x

To be honest I'll probably feel better with progesterone or something... will have to call them and see what they recommend! Thank you for replying to me

A huge congratulations to you and your little miracle Mummy:) May you be blessed in this journey. My friend tried for years with IVF and spent some serious money she eventually stopped and then got pregnant.

Holskey · 02/02/2022 22:29

Congratulations!

You may be prescribed progesterone but you may not need it. It depends on your history. I have unexplained infertility and I've had two natural FETs work without any progesterone at all - my pregnancies just relied on my own hormones. So don't panic if they say it isn't necessary.

Congratulations. I've had five ivf failures then a natural pregnancy. Ivf clinic (who I was still using) refused to advise me on if I should take anything. GP had no clue and he even contacted the ivf clinic but they didn't reply to him. I took progesterone anyway as I had some and I'd had progesterone issues after transfers. Ended in a miscarriage for me unfortunately. Next time I had an ivf appointment I made sure they wrote a letter including what to take if I did fall pregnant naturally again. My point is you might have to push for them to help.

No advice but huge congratulations Smile

This is what I'm worrying about to be honest . I know I'll feel better with some progesterone but then at the same time I think well it's happened on it own should I just leave it completely natural? It's tough I'm so sorry you miscarried. It's so hard

One of my work colleagues had 5 rounds of ivf and she had to fund 4 of those herself and none worked. She started looking into adoption as they had run out of money and also sold their house for equity and gone back into rented. Three months later she got pregnant naturally. She has 2 children now and could not be happier. Well done OP.

thunderonlyhappenswhenits · 03/02/2022 17:30

Just an update - as I thought my clinic have said to let it carry on naturally. They said they only give us progesterone in ivf because obviously our bodies aren't producing it but she said it should be doubling every couple of days naturally, and that the bodies natural stuff will be better than any synthetic progesterone they can give me.
So... a little nervous but I have to let nature do what it's meant to !

@thunderonlyhappenswhenits your progesterone must have been normal to get you this far so I'm sure it'll be fine 🙂 As I said, I'm infertile and I don't need synthetic progesterone even though I only got pregnant via IVF.

All the best for a healthy and happy pregnancy 💕

Furmummy · 03/02/2022 21:24

Yep happened to me, I was in peri menapause with progesterone less than 1. Told I couldn’t have children -I am now 6 months pregnant, my progesterone went up naturally to normal levels in first week of finding out was pregnant - so body naturally corrected itself - congratulations xxxx

thunderonlyhappenswhenits · 03/02/2022 21:51

Amazing ladies isn't it what the body can do when it decides too. I just don't get it, 7 years with nothing then suddenly this ?!
The only thing I can think is maybe my body kind of reset itself when I got pregnant after the ivf last September ? Like it jogged it's memory. I know it sounds silly but who knows !

Just wanting to hop on as I find myself spontaneously 5 weeks pregnant, after needing IVF for my son 2 years ago.
My consultant prescribed me some progesterone as I was spotting (usual for me in my luteal phase), but as the spotting has almost stopped I'm doing my best to put trust in my body and let my hormones do their thing without starting the pessaries 😬

My husband and I are in absolute disbelief that this has happened. I feel like the Virgin Mary in comparison to everything we did to conceive our DS 😄

thunderonlyhappenswhenits · 04/02/2022 08:24

@Twiglet2353 Aw congratulation ! Isn't it amazing?! I'm still in shock I think! But definitely full of hormones cause I'm a right bitch atm 🤣
That's it, I'm happy to let my do what it needs to and try and out faith in it. As pp said, our bodies have got this far...

I'm the same, 7 weeks pregnant after 5 rounds of IVF for my daughter. In absolute disbelief. Perhaps this is more common than we realised 🤷‍♀️ but then I can't even say that having my daughter helped my body know what to do, I already have an older son before her so I knew what to do, just forgot for a bit??? Anyway, just grateful to have the chance of another ♥️
