Every time I eat and drink, it almost feels like it's not going down and is sitting in my digestive tract somewhere kind of between my neck and boobs, can't place it much better than that. Like there's this feeling there's something there, it's uncomfortable and constant and it's bothering me a lot. Sometimes I think it's like a bubble of gas, and I will try and burp it out but I can only manage these tiny little burps that don't relieve the pressure. It's totally driving me mad and I don't know how to word it well to ask my midwife, I've been trying to type this for ages now! What is going on and how do I stop it? It's making me not want to eat or drink as it's just uncomfortable and I'm miserable with it it's been weeks!

I had this, it's sort of heartburn/indigestion I think. I just remember feeling like an entire meal was sitting in my lungs.

I didn't find anything that helped, and I had HG as well so eventually threw everything up anyway which I suppose went some way to fix it!

You've described it quite well there, maybe show your midwife what you've just written?

Oh gosh its horrible isnt it. I had no idea what it was and apparently its heartburn. Pregnancy "heartburn" is ridiculous and it should be called something different, I have had it in both my pregnancies. Some things I have found to help....

  1. Keep a food diary and find out what makes it worse/better - then avoiding said foods!
  2. Small meals
  3. Gaviscon after meals when you are having a particularly bad day
  4. Omeprazole prescription from the doctor, I have 20mg a day and that seems to keep it at bay... I have flare ups when I eat badly but can get it to ease off in a few days by watching what I eat

I really hope you find some things that help! I am bed ridden with it sometimes it truly is horrific.

Ok thank you good to have an idea what it could be - I hadn't thought of heartburn but have never experienced it before! I didn't have this in my last pregnancy at all. Thanks for the tips!

It’s horrible isn’t it. Speak to your gp. You can get prescription medication for this.

Yep I'm suffering with this too ! Like your throats going to let up your stomach contents - it's regurgitation- only thing that helps is smaller portions and leaving 3 hours after food before bed !

yorkshireteaspoonie · 01/02/2022 13:40

Yep, heartburn.. I'm chugging spoonfuls of gaviscon before and after I eat along with making sure I sit/ eat upright. I also go to sleep propped up too 😩

HyphenCobra · 02/02/2022 00:28

Yes same, i glug gaviscon when it happens!!

DramaAlpaca · 02/02/2022 00:30

Gaviscon is your friend here, it should help a lot.
