Hello,

Im 33 weeks pregnant & for the last few days I’ve been getting up every half an hour in the night for a wee. During the day I’m fine when I’m sitting down but as soon as I stand up or walk I’m desperate to go. I’ve had some lower backache and then an ache below my bump like period pains. Yesterday evening I had Brixton hicks for about an hour - other then this no burning or anything. I’ve put it all down to pregnancy but it’s now occurred to me it may be a UTI!

Im now worried I’ve left it late and I’m getting worse. Does this sound like a UTI I won’t be able to get in to my Drs until Tuesday

Should mention after I go and stand up & then walk - I feel like I could go again but feeling subsides if I sit down!

It could be a UTI. I had these same symptoms for 10 days, but my urine was coming back OK, until day 10 when my sample lit up the hospitals machines. Get it checked out at triage rather than wait for your doctors.

Get it checked as soon as you can to be sure - no way to know. It really is worth doing just in case, especially this late in your PG.

I had UTIs all through my PG - kept coming and going. When DS had a very very slight temp after birth they took that into account and kept us in hospital because it was a risk factor. It turned out he did have an infection which got worse and he was quite poorly - they treated him with antibiotics and he's absolutely fine now but we were there for 10 days while he got better. I always wonder if they hadn't known about the UTI if we would've been sent home because it was so marginal and might not have spotted the signs soon enough.

Your doc should be able to see you tomorrow giving your pregnant and possible UTI.

You shouldn't need a GP appointment, call and ask if you can drop a urine sample in at reception, they should then get it dipped by the nurse. It does sound like pregnancy rather than a UTI but I'd still get checked!

I get UTIs from time to time and I never get burning just a persistent urge to pee. Could just be the position of the baby on your bladder but definitely get checked for UTI to be on the safe side. Even pre-COVID where you normally had to make a face to face appointment, and when not pregnant, if I called gp snd told reception I thought I had a UTI, they would have a GP call me back pretty quickly so they should treat this as an urgent matter.

I was convinced I had a UTI as it was exactly what I'd experienced before: lower back pain around my kidneys and weeing all the time in week 37; went to my GP who sent off my sample and gave me antibiotics just in case. 3 days later I went into labour and had our baby boy. I was discharged on day 10 and when I came home I had a letter confirming I didn't have a UTI. Best to get checked out, but don't presume it's 'just' a UTI in case - make sure your bag is ready. We were not quite ready! 🙂
