No fetal pole on dating scab

Hello, I found out I was pregnant last week and went for a dating scan yesterday. I think I am around 6 weeks.
At the scan there was a sac but no fetal pole inside, the sonographer said it is possibly too early to see or the baby may not be forming.

This is my first pregnancy so have made me extremely worried, my question is, has this happened to anyone else? I have another appointment in 2 weeks, so keeping my fingers crossed.

Was there a yolk sac too? Did the sonographer date you as 6 weeks according to the gestational sac size? Development happens quickly so it could be visible in a few days.

I had a scan at 5w exactly I think only the gestational and yolk sacs, another scan at 5w5d and the fetal pole and heartbeat were there.

I'm 6w1d today

He didn't really say anything which was a shame, just said it's tiny and too early to tell but it was possibly I might be 6 weeks.

The yolk sac was there just no fetal pole. I am hoping it was just too early. A long 2 week wait now to see.

Did you get given any paperwork? Was it private or NHS scan?

Why are you having a dating scan if you're only 6 weeks? A dating scan is done at 12 weeks.
When was your last period? The first day is when we count from but depending on when you ovulate you are probably much earlier than 6 weeks. Likely you are just very early, probably closer to 4/5 weeks. It's very common not to see a fetal pole and heartbeat before 6/7 weeks.

@emberplum the private scan place near me does scans 6-15 weeks and calls them dating scans. Maybe that's what OP meant?

Hi! I saw the heartbeat and fetal pole at 5w5d although I think I'm further along. She said the sac was 15mm I think. Is that normal?

I'm just wondering how you got on? I had a scan a week ago and thought I was 6 weeks but got told I was 5.
Yolk sac was visible but no fetal pole. I'm due another scan next week.

Hey OP! I had a scan at 5-6 weeks due to previous ectopic and could see scan and yolk sac. Went back 2 weeks later and there was a lovely little heartbeat ❤️ I'm now almost 19 weeks pregnant and baby is fine. Lady who did my scan wasn't concerned at all when they only saw yolk sac at first scan as she said that's what they'd expect at that stage so please try not to worry too much (believe me I know this is hard).
