My waters just broke!

I woke up feeling a bit wet down there, went to the loo, and as I stood up there was a pretty big gush of water all over the bathroom floor. It was blood tinged, but I've not had a bloody show yet, so I take it that's a two in one?

It doesn't smell , but does keep coming. When my mum told me to stock up on mat pads, I didn't realise I'd use half of them before birth 😂

Just waiting for contractions to start. How exciting!

Awww that is really exciting! Do you have names picked out? x

plinkplinkfizzer · 07/01/2022 05:31

I really wouldn't wait for contractions to start before going to Maternity if it was a gush .

Magissa · 07/01/2022 05:33

Very exciting! Good luck- will be watching for updates 😊

sjxoxo · 07/01/2022 05:38

@Pitstop1986 omg! I am awaiting baby boy who is due very soon - i am 38+6; so I am following your thread on tenterhooks! Good luck. Is it your first? Mine is and I’ve no idea what to expect.. just waiting waiting for something to happen! So exciting Xo

Pitstop1986 · 07/01/2022 06:24

We haven't got a name yet! We couldn't agree, but my mum said that I'll know what to call it once it's in my arms. She had names picked out for me and my siblings, but changed her mind on them all when we were born, so we all got called something else!

Contractions are coming every 4-9 minutes and are pretty bearable, so not heading to hospital just yet. Going to get some breakfast, then see if I can get a little more sleep

Hiya how many weeks are you?

PermanentTemporary · 07/01/2022 06:28

Very exciting! Best wishes x

badalmond · 07/01/2022 06:36

Advice I received was go straight to hospital if waters are pink or green tinged. Good luck!

littlemissalwaystired · 07/01/2022 06:47

Apologies if you've already spoken to your maternity unit, but I'm a midwife and we like to assess women within 4 hours of their waters breaking, whether they're contracting or not. Just to confirm it is your waters (even if it's as obvious as a gush!), make sure baby's nice and happy still and to talk about the recommendation of inducing labour if you're not labouring in 24 hours time. Good luck, how exciting!Smile

WafflesOrIceCream · 07/01/2022 06:51

How exciting OP!I would still ring and inform the midwife about your waters going.

scaredsadandstuck · 07/01/2022 06:54

Exciting!! Good luck OP Grin Bloody love a "I'm in labour" thread!!

Just to echo what a couple of others have said, in case you haven't already, give the maternity unit/midwife a call to let them know x

Joystir59 · 07/01/2022 07:03

Hope all goes well and baby here safe and sound very soon

QuiltedHippo · 07/01/2022 07:06

mommybear1 · 07/01/2022 07:09

babyboybluex · 07/01/2022 08:43

Definitely give a ring to let them know x

Pitstop1986 · 07/01/2022 10:32

Thanks all for your comments. I was going to wait it out until contractions were 4 minutes apart, but gave them a call and they've asked me to go in to check everything is ok

Hope all is going ok @Pitstop1986 🤞 you'll be holding baby soon!

ShowOfHands · 07/01/2022 13:32

Oh how exciting. Both of my labours started the same way. 31hrs later and 38hrs later respectively, I had my babies. The water just. Kept. Coming.

Santaisstilleatingmincepies · 07/01/2022 13:37

Hope you are now holding your dc op!

Pitstop1986 · 07/01/2022 14:12

Just back from the maternity unit. They can't assess me internally, so can't see how far along I am, but contractions are 7-8 mins apart, and it's my first, so they think it'll be a while yet.

Regardless of how I progress, I have to go back in this evening for some antibiotics and maybe some assistance on getting things going, but for now I've just been given instructions for things to look out for (temperature, sepsis symptoms, blood/merconium stained waters, etc)

Just waiting for contractions to ramp up to 3 in 10 minutes now.

Waters are still trickling out of me! After the big gush this morning, I thought most of them would be out, but no, it never ends! At least my bump doesn't feel as tight now

HerRoyalHappiness · 07/01/2022 14:15

Fingers crossed its not much longer before you're holding your baby in your arms

scaredsadandstuck · 07/01/2022 14:18

Good luck OP!! Hope your bubba is with you very soon. Keep moving, eating and drinking.

Mooey89 · 07/01/2022 14:19

Omg how exciting!!! Once my waters went twitch a pop the contractions upped in intensity but were still quite far apart. Your body knows what to do, good luck!!
