Worried about low birth weight after previous experience

Hi

I'm pregnant for the 3rd time. My first, DS, born 14 years ago was very low birth way, below all the centiles and transverse and born at 38 weeks. He's now healthy and well but it was a very scary experience. 19 months after that I gave birth to my DD, and was monitored throughout the pregnancy on the nhs with scans every four weeks and put on low dose aspirin to help the placenta. My DS was born a healthy 7 1/2 Ib at term. 12 years later, I'm now pregnant again, after a long gap, and this time with a new partner and by egg donor. I'm delighted to be pregnant but worried about the low birth weight issue. I never got any clarity as to why it happened with my DS. They asked me if I smoked, which I don't. I do have a circulation disorder, Raynauds, for which I've had to take medication in the past, and they said it could have been related to that. I wondering if anyone else has had experience with low birth weight and had second pregnancies, and how were you looked after? Should I be pushing for scans throughout the pregnancy and for the aspirin treatment again. Any advice much appreciated
. It's early days for me. My first scan is at 7 weeks, in early Jan and this is more owing to it being an IVF baby. Would love to hear your experiences.

Hi OP, I've had 5 children and my first born was a low birth weight- 5lb7oz born at 39+5. Because of this you should automatically have extra scans for growth, that's what I had and weirdly all my girls have had low birth weights but my boys were completely normal weight/size!
Once you have your midwife appointment they will ask about previous pregnancies, and once they know your DS was SGA it should be arranged to have extra scans. Hope this helps, all the best

Ok - that's good to know... good to hear you had 5 successfully. Did you have all 5 with Csections? I had two so far... Ok, let's hope it starts automatically. Yes my DS was 4Ib 11oz at 38 and it was a pretty worrying time. Fingers crossed this time ok :)

All of mine were natural births, the thought of recovery after a csection with a newborn terrifies me! And have been extremely lucky to have pretty straight forward labours. Be sure to mention being on the aspirin in previous pregnancies, and should the midwife not mention extra monitoring/scans, be sure to ask Smile

Thanks! This is very reassuring.
Will definitely ask. Smile
