Headaches since 14 weeks, now 20 weeks and still suffering

I've read a lot of threads where it's a common complaint for most. I suffer from migraines in general, it was always my tell tell sign my period was due. So I just thought when I got headaches in pregnancy it was just because I suffered before. So I can go a week inbetween without getting a headache and then the slight niggle and I'm bed bound, feeling sick, and just need to be in that dark room.

Yesterday was the worst of all. So it started on Wednesday, just a dull headache, went to bed, again woke up with the dull headache went to Superdrug drug after work and got the gel pads and 4head. It got to about 4pm and my god, my head on my right side felt like I'd be in 10 rounds with Tyson fury. Was in bed at 8pm and I was out for the count. Kept waking up every few hours and head was still pulsing. 2am I got up to take some paracetamol as was up at 5am for work. Thankfully it dulled down the headache. But I can still feel it there now and I'm in work till 2pm sat on the till. I'm scared it's going to end up like last night. I couldn't even eat. I just about managed a yogurt yesterday for dinner time. Has anyone had this problem? I'm starting to freak out a bit something is wrong. My bloody pressure and iron has been normal at all appointments also. And I've text my midwife for some advice

I had this in both my pregnancies. With DC1 they were full-on migraines, which I'd never experienced before - thankfully with DC2 it was 'only' a headache.

I seem to remember that they stopped around 22 weeks.

But if you're worried, I'd phone your GP and ask their advice.

I'm a pre pregnancy migraine sufferer too, and if I don't control it and it gets really bad I suffer the same as you too. I usually take a combination of ibuprofen & paracetamol to ease the pain but can't do that during pregnancy. I had noticed that belvita biscuits helped me when I was feeling an attack come on, and when I told my colleague he pointed out to me that I probably have a magnesium deficiency. Belvita biscuits is fortified with magnesium and 3 times I was able to control the migraine by eating the biscuits. I've looked up foods that contain magnesium and I defo don't include many of them in my daily diet, as I don't enjoy most of it! But I've now stocked up on pumpkin seeds, dark chocolate and belvita biscuits to help. I'm not saying this will help you, but if your migraine is caused by magnesium deficiency then upping your intake should help.

@hag84 oh my wow, what a random discovery! I shall definitely try that. I'll try anything at this point. Like you say, pre pregnancy it was easy to combine stronger medications to shift it. I feel like paracetamol doesn't even touch the surface🥴 I've not had a 3 day long episode for a long long time. Just as I've thought it's going, it's throbbing again. Then I'll have a weeks break and boom, headache time. I did find original lucozade helped at first, it perked me up. So I would have a small bottle of that and nothing else containing caffeine but that trick has been out the window since that's not helped either. I'm going to see if it eases off tomorrow, Have my 20 week scan Monday also, so I'll mention it there

Yes it definitely was a random discovery, and I've not had a bad episode since, but it's only been a week. I always thought it was due to low iron that was causing the migraines, and I've tried Accupuncture to no avail.
I also keep hydrated and have some caffeine in addition to increasing magnesium intake. I'm also using 4head too! But the magnesium seems to be doing the trick so far.

@hag84 yes! 4head and the kool pads have been a bit of a relief. I think I'm going to have a good meal (hopefully eat most of it) and get into bed. Honestly just knocks me out. In work today I was just clock watching ready to go home
