2kg of dates?!

At 35 weeks, I've started to eat dates. I was thinking of eating about 3 per day and upping it to the recommended 70g next week at 36 weeks when you are meant to start (don't want to shock my digestive system with a massive influx of dried fruit next week haha)

Anyway, I had some in the cupboard that I use to make sticky toffee pudding, but for a small bag, they're quite expensive. I ordered 1kg bag from Amazon, thinking that it'd see me through until birth... Nope!

Eating 70g per day, a 1kg bag would last 2 weeks! So if you started eating 70g at 36 weeks and had the standard 40 week pregnancy, you'd get through 2kg in the 4 weeks.

Is it just me or does that seem ridiculous?!

Luckily I love the taste and can just eat them like sweets whilst watching TV

Why are you meant to start eating dates at 36 weeks? I have never heard of this! Is it meant to help get baby out on time?

Never eaten a date.
Envy
Not envy.
Had great labours..

There's a lot of research that eating dates in the last few weeks of pregnancy help ripen the cervix and shorten labour

I thought that was supposed to be raspberry leaf tea?
At least eating that many dates means you won't get constipated.

Raspberry leaf tea is good for toning your uterus and making contractions stronger and more effective.

It's probably nonsense but I drank lots of raspberry leaf tea and my Labour was 1hr start to finish. The contractions were epic and I didn't even push, body did it all.

Eat whatever makes you feel good and happy OP Smile

I'm doing the same as you - 35 weeks and started eating 6 dates a day :) it will be expensive... went to tesco today and picked up a bag on promotion. I'm just going to buy them as I need them so I don't notice the cost as much!
