Negative test but feel pregnant

Hi all I was 5 + 5 weeks and today tested negative with three tests today. Gutted. But still feel pregnant. Is this normal? I had spotting last week and had five BFPs and told the doc- he told me to wait until 6 weeks and test again after which time they’d send me for an early scan if positive. I tested a bit early as I’m impatient and it’s v distracting not knowing if it’s an MC. Trouble is I’m still have sensations and cramps… lower backache and thought I had round ligament pain over the weekend. Anyone experienced this!? This would be second consecutive MC and it’s a bit disheartening but as I say feels different. Any ideas? X

Hello! What time did you do your tests? Was your urine diluted?

I only ask because with my pregnancy I tested the week before and it was a big fat negative, 6 days later there was a faint line at 4pm, tested the next morning as soon as I woke up and it was a solid line.. fingers crossed for you! If not, if you wanted to know for sure could you not just say you had another positive and get sent for a scan?

Also, without some sort of proper bleed not spotting, you haven't technically miscarried or had a chemical have you? X

@MissM94, thanks so much for your reply. I tested in the afternoon. But all my positive tests the previous week were also in the afternoon. I read that it shouldn’t matter what time of day if you have enough hcg…?… interesting suggestion re scan. I think I will do as you suggest- try again first thing and test then. Last week was really strange with the bleeding/ spotting. Was 100% not my usual AF which is usually three to four days of solid bleeding. This was literally 3 drops on Sunday, a bleed on Monday (maybe half a sanitary towel) and by Tuesday afternoon back to spotting again and for the rest of the whole week (7days or so, literally spots when wiping). It’s so confusing! Think I’m gonna speak to the doc and feel it would be really bad luck if it’s another MC straight after the first one in June- I’m 37. No issues getting pregnant it seems now (came off pill last December), issue seems to be staying pregnant for longer than 6/7 weeks. Thank you x

How strange that they've been positive and now they're negative! So have you had a light bleed but not your normal AF after the positive tests? X

Seascaper12 · 30/11/2021 17:09

Hey so yes I had a light bleed and positive tests and then negative. So I spoke to the doc - and no reason for a scan so not worked out this time sadly. They said next time I am positive to get in touch and they’ll speak to the EPU about whether I can get early scans/ progesterone etc! So here we go again. Thanks for support tho! X

I had two consecutive miscarriages this past year, now pregnant for the third time and so far this one is sticking better, I'm 16 weeks today. Yes it's bad luck, but does happen. Sucks badly though. Sorry for your losses xx

After my last mc I asked if I could get referred for investigations given I'm 35 and have no children yet but the consultant said no. He did however write a treatment advice note for cyclogest (progesterone pessaries), and I got the prescription from the GP. They have a long shelf life and the consultant said to start using it from the day I test positive again, so I picked up the prescription shortly after and had it sitting in my bathroom cabinet ready for when I needed them. Might be worth asking your doctors for the prescription now, especially now that the NICE guidance was also updated to recommend it so they should be able to prescribe it without consultant input.

I also started taking low dose aspirin as soon as I got pregnant again. This wasn't prescribed but I did my own research and my midwife later confirmed it's completely safe, and even seemed a little impressed that I'd taken the initiative.

Best of luck and hoping for a super sticky baby next time! xxx

GinnyBee thanks so much for your kind reply. That’s so helpful to know. Yea, saw the NICE guidance and told the doctor (it hadn’t appeared to filter down yet!) but good shout on the prescription. Will look into that- thank you. I read a bit about aspirin and noticed a few women on here say the same thing (though pharmacists tend to tell you to avoid!). So wonderful that you have a good story to tell after two miscarriages. Gives me great hope and congratulations on being 16 weeks today- that’s amazing and inspiring. Thank you. Xx
