Baby’s head measuring huge at 16week scan

Hi Moms
Recently had my 16 week scan, was 16 weeks 6 days at the time . Baby’s head circumference is measuring quite a bit ahead, almost by 2 weeks!
Doc doesn’t seem concerned but I am, as it’s off the chart, so above the 98th percentile Has anyone else experienced this or similar?

My Ds's measurements were always off the chart for his head and tummy at scans. He does have a large head for his age but the only way you'd know is that you have to buy bigger hats than usual!

So it’s not the heart? As that would warrant concern. But if the head is still on the centile that’s usually fine it’s when they start going off the chart but if doctor is not worried I wouldn’t worry. I had a scan once and my babies legs were tiny on the chart my sister joked I was having a dwarf baby and I became paranoid and went back for another scan, the measurements were In mm, so the slightest off measurement of a couple of mm can make the scan measurement chart look very scary but all is well.

@Nikki037297
Yes head, sorry, not heart.
I think it’s pretty much off the chart currently - doc says brain structure is normal tho that’s why she is not worried.
However, I have read that macrocephaly is when measurement is above 98th percentile and mine definitely is…
All so stressful!!

What is your head size like? And the baby’s father? What kind of hats do you buy?

The centiles are the usual range, off the edge of the centile chart does not necessarily mean it’s a problem though.

(I had a big headed baby, you could tell even in the 12 week scan that he’d take after his father… he also measured off the charts in an internal brain measurement, but it was still way below any problematic level. I think it was the bit of his brain where he stores the complete knowledge of football trivia and stats).

@WhatsWrongWithMyUsername thanks. I would say our heads are big than average but not massive.
My previous pregnancies, the heads also measured ahead, but not by such a large amount and only from about 26weeks gestation. So was quite a shock to hear this baby is measuring almost 2 weeks ahead on head measurement…

My daughter was told her baby’s head was large. She has a large head and her partner has a large head. When the baby was born it was only slightly larger than average. Don’t worry too much they like to freak you out.
