Scared I've been taking too much vitamin D

Hi guys. I'm currently 12 weeks pregnant and from about 6 weeks I've been taking a high strength vitamin d supplement once a day. It says its 25ug (can't do the symbol but I think you'll get which one I mean!) How much exactly is this? And how much is ok?

I'm furious at myself for risking taking a high strength one rather than a normal one and am scared baby will have problems due to this.

That's 1,000iu and perfectly fine! Safe upper limit is 4000iu.

The national recommendation IMO is ludicrously low. It might keep us out of deficiency but won't come anywhere near maintaining ideal healthy levels.

I take 4000iu daily. I believe your body pees out what's not needed. As an aside, everyone in my house tested positive for covid last month apart from me, and I'm the only one that's been taking this strength of vitamin d for over a year. Might be coincidence though!

Hey! Your body doesn't pee out excess vitamin D, it's stored in fat but, even still, it's really very very hard to overdose, as said in previous posts, the recommended amount for pregnancy is way way too low. Up to 4000IU per day is perfectly safe.

I did this by accident when pregnant. Was basically taking vitamin D and a pregnancy vitamin which already had some vitamin D in it, so was double dosing. I have a perfectly healthy, content, mischievous 16 month old now. Certainly did neither of us any harm.

OP I am taking the same amount - it is fine. However, people are wrong that too much isn't harmful, it can be. Excess vitamin d can cause too much calcium in the body which is dangerous. But 25ug is absolutely fine!

Worth noting that reported and verified cases of Vitamin D toxicity have resulted from non-regulated supermarket (rather than pharmacy) products that were much stronger than the packet stated, in one case it was 40,000iu and the lady was taking it for months.
