41 weeks today, ftm and have a sweep in a few hours. Please reassure me, is it really painful? Did it start anything off for you? I know there's no evidence but I'm getting impatient waiting for this bubba to arrive so happy to accept at this point!

I had one, it didn’t start anything for me sadly but they were able to say I was already 3cm dilated and they would be able to break my waters so put my mind at ease before my induction.

Didn’t hurt at all, just a little uncomfortable like a smear test.

SoTiredoftheStress · 12/11/2021 11:21

I had two, neither hurt at all.

First one gave me cramps for a few hours after second I went into labour around 9hrs later.

all the best x

SoTiredoftheStress · 12/11/2021 11:22

sorry should have added, two for the one pregnancy. one around 41 wks and the second was about 2-3 days later

starrynight21 · 12/11/2021 11:26

I had one with ds, it didn't hurt much, more like a slight burning feeling. I had a bloody show that night and went into labour next morning, gave birth at lunchtime. Good luck !

starrynight21 · 12/11/2021 11:28

Should add I was 40 weeks, due Christmas Day so asked if Dr could help things along. I took him home on Christmas Eve , hooray ! DD4 told everyone that she got a baby for Christmas.

CornishGem1975 · 12/11/2021 11:34

I had three over the course of a week. The first was effing torture, not sure what she was reaching for! The second two were mildly uncomfortable. None of them worked.

lololololollll · 12/11/2021 12:09

I read so much on here about how horrible it was a was sooo scared. No lie... I barely felt it. Maybe says something about me haha

OverTheWater · 12/11/2021 12:13

Had one on Tuesday at 11am, baby arrived just after midnight!

It didn't hurt, just uncomfortable and weird. It made me feel a bit crampy. Went for a walk at 4pm and had curry for lunch so who knows what really kicked things off?!

DeedIDo · 12/11/2021 12:26

Sweep 3:00pm Thursday. Labour started about 6:30pm that night. Baby born 1.15pm Friday.

I was 37 or 38 weeks, but engaged and ready to go according to the GP.

wertheppl · 12/11/2021 13:12

Mine didn't hurt I was very surprised maybe a little uncomfortable. I had mine at 40wks as I had to be monitored again so she said she wld give it a go. She said I was very favourable and said I was likely to go into labour soon! Got me very excited and I went on a long walk, had spicy food and pineapples then had sex that night. In the end it made no difference 🙈😂 and I was enduced 1 wk later as blood pressure kept going up.

rainbowbaby2 · 12/11/2021 13:52

I just had it. My god that was intense!
I wouldn't say painful but I really had to focus on my breathing throughout. I'm 50% effaced and she could stretch me to 2cm so I'm hoping that's a good sign?

I'm having tightenings every 7-8 minutes! Could this be it?! They're not painful as of yet just quite uncomfortable... could they be braxton hicks?

Fingers crossed for you @rainbowbaby2 - I've got my sweep tomorrow and am ftm like you and a little anxious about how it will go.

Hope all goes well and you get to meet your bubba soon!

rainbowbaby2 · 12/11/2021 20:18

@Crazybabylady14 you will be absolutely fine! Don't worry. When you get there just try and relax, make sure your shoulders and relaxed etc. Just do your deep breathing and it's over really soon. I'd say it's a little more uncomfortable than a smear test.

@rainbowbaby2 did anything happen after your sweep? Had mine yesterday and wasn't too bad - although I then had to spend hours in the assessment unit as BP was up - unsurprising after having a stranger rummage around your nether region 😂

rainbowbaby2 · 14/11/2021 12:24

Well it worked! 5 hours later I was in labour and 24 hours later exactly baby boy was born in the water with the most perfect birth I could of asked for!
The sweep must of helped!

Daisy829 · 14/11/2021 14:01

Ah congratulations! I’m a bit late to be of any use but when I had a sweep I went in to labour that evening.
