Hi. I’m starting to pack my bags - how many nursing pads do I need? I see a pack of 60 in Boots - is that enough?
Same for maternity pads - which ones are the best to buy and how many are needed? Thanks!

I would just get 60 to start with (or you get washable bamboo ones). I bought tonnes and never had to use them! My boobs just didn’t leak although from speaking to friends I think I was in the minority.

Pads i used always discreet boutique for the hospital / heavy flow days. I think they are actually for incontinence but did the job! They are disposable pants with pads built in which worked well for first few days..think I took pack of 2x packs of 10 to hospital. I didn’t stay overnight so didn’t use them all.

I never needed breast pads. I stayed in overnight with first so probably used 8-10 maternity pads. Second I went home after the birth so only used the 1 I went home in.

Best to be prepared I suppose. I'd pack 10 of each just in case assuming DP can bring more if needed.

I bought two or three packs of the washable breast pads and I really needed them - as I fed from one side the other would run like a tap! After a few months they made excellent silent coasters when the baby was asleep (I was constantly thirsty).

I had pelvic floor issues post birth and life became easier when I used the pants - my mother bought me tena but there are cheaper ones out there. Worth getting a packet of those in case you have a heavy flow or leakage issues?

Are you planning to breastfeed? I was using breast pads for months after giving birth, going through more than one set a night for ages! I went through a whole box of disposable ones before discovering reusable though, and, good lord, what a treat for my nipples that was. Like PP say, you really don’t know what you’ll need until it happens. But if you do need breast pads I would seriously consider reusable they are so much more comfortable.

Incidentally, I hardly needed any maternity pads.

I got the pack of 60 from boots. I've packed maybe 5 pairs in my hospital bag.

For maternity pads I also got boots ones (they came in a pink packet) I've packed 2 of the packs in my hospital bag.

I've packed additional of each in another bag to stay in the car, that way I'm feeling more prepared without feeling like I'll be overkill in hospital. The trouble is you don't know how long you'll be in for.
