Has anybody else given birth with herpes?

I'm 38+4 and due to have a c-section at 39+3. I have diagnosed HSV1 (the oral type) but get the outbreaks down below. It's a historic infection so I'm told the risk to baby is minimal but I feel so ashamed.

My OB and midwife have got me on acyclovir as a preventative but I'm still in the middle of an outbreak right now and it's not likely to be gone by next week. Just one sore present but I'm well aware of it and feel so run down.

Has anybody else had to deal with this as they give birth? Sad

So I don’t have any experience of this but mostly just wanted to say you shouldn’t feel ashamed - it happens and to my mind it’s just unlucky. i can’t imagine your medical team is judging you and the main thing is they know about it so they will make sure you and baby are looked after (and it sounds like they are). Good luck for the birth!

If your having a c-section I would expect the risk to be almost non existent?

I just wanted to say please don't feel ashamed. One in ten of us have this (whether type 1 or type 2) main thing is that you and baby are healthy. There's no risk to baby if you have a caesarean so just insist on one as will take the pressure off and better to know what's happening so you feel more in control. Good luck and don't worry about it, it's a condition that's just part of being a human being x
