Hiya. Getting ready to pack hospital bag and I’m so confused about the coming home outfit. She is due Jan 3rd so it will be cold. What do I need? Some places say a vest and onesie, others say an all in one, others say 2 piece. What’s the best thing to take her home in? How many layers will I need? Possibly stupid question but I’ve never had to dress a baby before!

A long sleeved all-in-one with feet, and another thick winter suit with a hood, over the top?

My Dec baby came home in A vest, All all in one and a cardi and hat with a blanket over him tucked in the car seat. Will do similar for this one due in Feb.

Best, sleep suit, cardigan, hat and blanket.

The thicker fleecy all in ones are good but I don't think they're meant to go in them in the car seat.

Vest, baby grow, cardi and a blanket.

A thick suit would need to be taken off if travelling in a car so probably more of a faff than it’s worth.

Layers. Hospital will likely be roasting and outside freezing, so vest, sleepsuit, cardigan, hat, blanket - then you can add layers as required!

My Dd is a December baby and she came home in a vest, long sleeved sleep suit, hat & a car seat wrap

Just take hats, vest and suit for baby, and blankets to put over.
I like the cellular blankets most just because you can really layer them up well but a fleece one over the top of it's freezing might be nice.

Don't layer baby up too much in terms of clothes (nothing bulky) and you can't put a baby in a coat/pramsuit in the car seat as this is dangerous and can hinder the seat belt working correctly. Just layer blankets up over the top of the already buckled in baby and it will be plenty warm enough!

Forgot to reply but did read these at the time - thanks very much, I've actually got some things packed in hospital bag now! And don't feel completely lost, so thank you!

I clicked this assuming you meant your outfit and thought “ooh that’s something I hadn’t thought of” 😅

Due in 2 weeks.

I'm planning a vest, a onesie, a cardigan and hat. Got a blanket for over the car seat too depending on the weather.

Evianontoast · 13/11/2021 16:27

@HopefulRose haha! That's a lost cause i think. I'm guessing it'll just be a rehash of one of my 3-ish go to pregnancy outfits!!!

@HopefulRose
I thought the same, and was going to say something comfortable that won't press on a (maybe) sore tummy etc.
