Pregnancy sickness - looking after your toddler at the same time

Any tips or advice on how to look after your little one while in the early stages of pregnancy?

My DD is 2 and I am currently 8 weeks pregnant suffering quite badly with sickness and nausea. On medication which isn’t helping so I feel a bit of a dying duck most of the day. Currently off work due to feeling so poorly.

I just feel so awful for my little girl, I try to play with her when I can and nap when she naps but feel the TV is my only saviour for the rest of the day which I feel so guilty about! She’s at nursery 2 times a week which is a lifesaver and the grandparents have been helping some mornings but they don’t know I’m pregnant yet! Husband works from home 4 days a week but is on calls most the day so can’t really help.

You just have to do what you have to to get through it. Don’t worry about your little girl she will be fine. I’m sure she won’t remember this and as long as you are there she will be ok. Lower your parenting standards and use cbeebies as much as you need to.

I’m right there in the same boat again with my third. Ds1 was only 10 months when I was pregnant with ds2 so he didn’t understand why I wasn’t able to play with him and it was tough but he learnt to play well independently which is a really good skill for a child about to have a sibling. He’s certainly none the worse for the few months I wasn’t well.

My 2 are now 2 and 4 and I’m 11 weeks with my third and having very severe sickness again and it is really hard but just doing what I can to get through the day!
