Vitamin D-am I taking too much?

Hey everyone! So when I was TTC I was taking the usual pre conception pregnacare plus an additional 1000iu of vitamin D. I've continued on taking them in addition to pregnacare max so I'm taking 1400iu total. I just had a sudden panic last night as to whether this is too much! I've read online though that recent data is suggesting pregnant women need more like 4000iu!

I was deficient in vitamin D and had treatment last year which worked but I haven't had a blood test since TTC. I'll call the pharmacy on Monday but just need some reassurance and advice until then as I'm panicking now about toxicity or something! But equally I know being deficient in pregnancy is no good either! I'm just 4+6 x thanks everyone x

Nhs says this:

Do not take more than 100 micrograms (4,000 IU) of vitamin D a day as it could be harmful. This applies to adults, including pregnant and breastfeeding women and the elderly, and children aged 11 to 17 years.

I was taking 1000-2000iu all through last winter and when I had a test in March my level was in the bottom third of normal range, so it's really unlikely you've taken too much!

In my personal opinion the guideline of 400iu is so far on the safe side to be almost negligent. It may keep us out of deficiency but won't be anywhere near ideal.

Also the cases I've seen of toxicity have been when someone was taking a non-pharmacy product (not tested to check actual real levels vs. what's on the label) that contained like 40,000iu. And this is what Mayoclinic website says: "Taking 60,000 international units (IU) a day of vitamin D for several months has been shown to cause toxicity."

Up to 4,000 iU is absolutely fine - my kids take that level in the winter, on their dietician's instructions.

Thanks ladies. I know I'm being irrational anxious! I needed some talking down so thank you for that ladies ❤️
